So, Adobe is providing tools for both HTML5 and Flash camps, it's like selling weapons to both sides in Africa.
Poor people shooting each other with inferior but equally bad guns. Then along comes America, fuck yeah with DX11 and bombs them to shit calling both lamers.

nice rant, do you do birthdays?
the pronounciation in english is so funny ... "aedohbee"
DX11 .. HELL YEAH!
shit. just saw a new flash 3D engine demonstration. wow. you'll see it soon :)
I didn't. I just saw videos.
I saw trees
Here's one for new flash player, brought by Away3d and Evoflash:

I understood it's pretty much tech demo on quite early prototype tech, but seems interesting enough.

Hmm.. as a flash demo, its impressive. As a general tech demo, it's pretty shit.
My thinking here is that impressive 3d games like this tend to mean lots of big meshes and textures, meaning a huge download. The joy of flash games is generally that you can click and start playing within a few seconds. If you have to wait 10 minutes, why not just download a native game and get way better gfx + performance?
Still, can't complain about improved flash demos :)

psonice: would it be 10 minutes with a, let say, 50mbps connection?
I think that done properly and with a good enough connection, even texture/mesh streaming would be possible for certain games. You know, think in something like WoW... I don't see why it couldn't be streamed.
I'm sure that at some point in some not very distant future, internet speed is going to reach a similar speed to directly loading from your HD. I've read somewhere that there are starting to offer 500mbps and 1gbps connections, I don't remember if in Japan or in Korea.
So, probably it is a bit early for the 3d accelerated web technologies to be mainstream and for all purposes, but, maybe in 5, 10, 15 years we will remember installing executable software as something like punch cards now.

By then of course, the graphical quality will be much higher and the download correspondingly bigger. Games never actually load faster I think, you just load more in the same amount of time :)
So now we will get boring 3D flyby Flash demos instead of cool software rendered Flash demos. This is late 90`s all over again....
texel: i believe that if you download the demo version of WoW, it does stream
Is it something like an OpenGL subset?
also dont forget to check out the ugly games at testdrive.

I'm eager to see your technologically superior answer to their ante.

This is what I meant, as a tech demo the flash stuff looks very late 90s.
The beauty of flash games is the instant access for a quick blast of something without leaving the browser, that was my point. If you're going to wait around for a big + complex game to load, it starts competing with native code, at which point you get this kind of comparison.
If it's going to give us better looking 'quick blast' type games, or at least get flash running better than it does (and less crashy would help too) it's all good.
the emphasis was on "your".
Hey, I'm not a big international company making 3d plugins for the web or game engines :)
For visual quality, I believe flash 3d is just in the very early beginning and should match and surpass mobile open gl es stuff pretty soonish. WebGL offering gives nice competition and should keep the development going.
Anyway, It's more about what you do with it and not about what you can clone. I didn't like the Away3d&Evoflash offering too much, as visuals looked like they were bit forced upon with little attention to polished look vs "let's throw up shitload of polygons and show 'em". More abstract design will benefit from new 3d apis much more as you don't need to get it "realistic"
Also, compared to native platforms: Having cool stuff that actually works on most browsers is much better than having cool stuff that only works with hardcore gaming rig and right manufacturer video card (Unless you want to hand patch the shaders that is, though it rarely helps). I watch almost all new demos as kkrapture videostreams nowadays as realtime just isn't available most of the time.
For download times, having 3D APIs doesn't mean you need to download shit load of textures. Flash has perfectly good bitmap apis for procedural texture generation, though precalculation times are still bit too hefty.
Main thing I'm worried with Flash AS3 performance is amount of precalculation for 3d scene materials that still takes a lot of time, as there isn't much time for doing it run time. Also culling can be quite cpu intensive job when polycounts get higher.

surpass mobile open gl es
Even on a GMA950? ;)
Eventually flash 3d will need to support portable devices and that means OpenGL ES, so OpenGL ES can't surpass OpenGL ES because it's the same.
