I'm looking for an old cracktro...
category: offtopic [glöplog]
Hi, I just thought there's a slight chance that someone here would recognize it given its description and give me some pointers.
I must have had it around the year 2000 ; I remember I was playing quake 3 but I don't think it was a cracktro for quake 3.
It was for win32 apparently, it had only a single scene : background was a rainbow of horizontal lines scrolling up fast I think, and there was sinusoidal waves in the foreground scrolling towards left I think.
Plus some text scolling. I think it had something like the words "and a special hello to John Kramer".
I especially liked the music ; it was something like a melodic chiptune and there was a sample saying the quote, I think, "life moves pretty fast ; if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it".
If it rings any bell...
Help appreciated :)

Seriously? WTF??
fuck you xeron :D
Back in the late 90s, early 2000 the sentance
"life moves pretty fast ; if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it"
was used quite often.
and btw, it is sooo true...
Considering the cracktro. Well, I have some knowledge about, but it does not ring any bell for me... At least at that moment... Sorry..
There was any logo in it?
Go to defacto2 site, spend maybe 2-3h (yes!, be patient if you want to reach the goal! why not) and search for it...

sim: yes, true. Although when you stop it's good not to stop for ages either.
I went on that site and found a 126M file containing cracktros, I've just spent a few minutes trying, now I think there's a really good chance the one I'm looking for was CLASS. However more than half of them won't launch. So much error messages :)
But I found some memories, thanks.

wait..are you actually linking to cracktro vids here?
@HeLLoWorld: dude, that's true, the archive contains soo many broken zips...
My pleasure HeLLoWorld. Happy I could help.

126mb, that's like, 7 or 8 cracktros by today's standards?!
apart from the particular audio sample and that it runs on windows, you managed to describe ANY cracktro in the last 3 decades...
sim : I think it's mostly dlls missing, maybe also things that worked on windows 95 or 98 that don't work anymore, but that's life :)
Maali : you've got some point, so you've got me started:
The background scrolls up fast, and the sines scroll left fast, if I remember.

that picture is not yours but ripped straight from the new SHIT ROW cracktro!
And also, although seeming win32 it was apparently 320x200 or 320*240 fullscreen, maybe ddraw or such.
Not many cracktros are fullscreen.
Also the colors cycle vertically and the sines move left fast at different speeds depending on the wavelength and the text scrolls left a bit slower.
iirc.

Just judging by the screenshot: this one?
Oh hey, the screenshots even references John Kramer :D
Why would anyone look for THAT intro is beyond me..
Because of the nostalgia and/or music, I suppose.
Being John Kramer seems legit to me.
WOOHOO!
This is fucking great.
You made my night fellow.
Yeah, nostalgia and music.
I also liked the color cycling and the sines.
thought about it yesterday and thought it would be fun to revive this thread more than two years later.
Turns out it was a very good idea.
Seems the timing is fucked up on my current rig, but eh, can live with that.
Btw I dont even know John Kramer heh.
Thank you again.
