Code:<img src="hugi36_titlepic_sad_fairy.jpg" width="400" height="300">

Yes, because in 2010, the best way to show images is to take a 1024x768-image and use "width" and "height" to rescale it (badly) in the browser. This was something I thought only morons and 60-year olds did these days?

magic: why not a better website?

Maali: you fucking lamer with your fucking spam.. fuck off!

Defiance: we spend most our time on the .exe version. We don't have enough time to do a better online version. (unfortunately that is)

Gloom: at least we have release a new issue. Where is zine?

Magic: your online version is good for quick + easy access to the articles. But why not spend some time for the next issue doing a seriously cool online-only special edition instead of the normal .exe?

Once that's done, you have the codebase there for future editions and you can do both online + .exe using the same gfx + content fairly easily, everyone is able to access it and still get the nice fx + music.

gloom: at least the rescale functionality has gotten better by the years
Thats cute how people stick to scene stuff like that:

Exactly the kind of people who don't leave the scene because... well, you know... you don't leave the scene!

Not really the point though - you still have to load a 1024x768 image, just to show a 400x400 image, which is stupid. :)

Probably waiting with its release until there are enough qualitiy articles.

The 1024x768 image appears in an article unscaled as well.

Adok: and? Does opening up pouet.net/index.php force-load all prod screenshots? No. If I read that article, I might have wanted to look at a bigger resolution version of it, but I didn't, so it shouldn't be there. And - it probably shouldn't be in the article either, since it would be way to big for any sensible text formatting to fit next to it.

Since the point seems to be whizzing all over the heads of HUGI-HQ: use two images. One smaller thumbnail, with a link to a bigger image.

the best part about the width/height attributes of the img tag is when it destroys proportions. that's just amazing! :-)
gloom: OK, done.

All: What should a cool online magazine look like? What features should it have?

The online edition of Hugi #32 is the issue that comes closest to the original diskmag issue in its visual appearance. Still it's far to be the same as the diskmag (no music, no crossfading etc.).

Search for videos of say the wired ipad app. Like that. Magazine style layout with some good design, embedded videos of the demos you're talking about, cool css3 stuff for transitions.

adok: work lightweight on all main browsers and platforms.

Must be made with pure html and css. no flash and other shitty plug-ins involved.

magic, adok: and you could very easily have incorporated an online stream mp3 player on the hugi36 online version. just a couple lines of html code and a .js include. example

AAAAH, STOP USING MP3!!!!

Not because "ogg is open" and all, but because MP3 is patented, and licensing it is bloody expensive, and they may randomly sue you (sometimes they don't, sometimes they do... their pattern suggest that they wait you dig deep into MP3 use, to the point that you cannot get rid of it, to then sue you and force you to license)

we tried ogg.
people couldnt make them play on their mp3 players.

and no, we aint gonna do highqual .mp3 for desktop archivists, lowqual .mp3 for stream, .ogg for the opensource fanatics, and .flac for the obsessive compulsive folks with too much HD space. high qual mp3 was the choice.

if someone asks for a patent, we'll block convert to the next most popular format quasi lossless format and/or tell them to sod off.

speeder: Please tell me *one* person who has been sued for patent infringement as a result of using/distributing MP3 files (as opposed to developing MP3 encoders/decoders).
