sucks. As long as the submission is interactively controlled (...) it will be considered.
exactly! is NO DEMO anymore this way !
SUCKS!
SUCKS!
So just add a "toggle wireframe mode on/off" key or something...
or like old bob-routines...add lots of changeable values for sines/cosines/speeds/etc ;)
this doesnt make sense with newskool-demos !

sucks.
Naty Hoffman, who's on the SIGGRAPH 2010 commitee, contacted me today and asked whether it was possible to get rove and Agenda Circling Forth submitted. He also asked me to spread the word to other sceners :).
I'll ask for clarification about the "interactively controlled" rule. But in the meantime, as they're actively asking for it, it's safe to assume that they'll accept demos. So just go ahead and submit your stuff anyway. :)
Maybe selection of screen resolution at the beginning is enough for interactivity :P
How much €?
xernobyl, $50, but only if you're nooon.
wasnt that 50 cents ?
85$
@jua: :D
siggraph rejected my talk about VSXu.. so I'm going to Assembly instead.
Revenge of babbnaasen had it's mouse controlled section, maybe something like that would be acceptable.
I just bought my student ticket for the full conference. Any scener attending ? We could have a little pub meeting some time that week.
it turned out that the category required interactivity after all, although I understand they might change that for next year to make it more suitable for demos.
however, we actually did get accepted - although we had to make a few modifications.. :) - we added (webcam-based) interactivity.

Smash, is that for your particle stuff? I'd like to see it :)
siggraph = corporate whore-show - just say no!
Yes, because none of us work in the industry and we are all a bunch of bedroom coders. Indeed.

Also, ban money.
ha - you guys are so easy! but actually, they haven't even the level of sophistication to be able to swallow the definition of a demo (ie: non-interactive narrative artistic performance) and stray away from the idea that CG must be accompanied by "interaction". So who needs 'em - bunch of troglodytes.
I fail to see your logic, we're talking about ACM SIGGRAPH right?
Whose attendees are those from Pixar, Dreamworks and many other non-interactive production factories. I think we are also talking of a gathering that has given the later part of the Demoscene pretty much the entire technical foundation in the field of graphics programming to render its artistic expressions beautifully.
I say, you do your research before going on to randomly diss every corporate. Who knows, maybe it's not even a corporate in the end.

yeh, logic can be blinding if you become its slave. my response is purely reflexive (no robotic logic involved) and a response to the fact that they want demoscene demos, yet at the same time do not want them? a demo is a demo and they have expressed a desire to contact the DEMOscene but require our most prized productions to be altered in a way that makes them nolonger a demo?
if you think about that for a moment, it is pretty illogical in itself and is of no real benefit to educating people on the joys of just passively watching realtime CG as an artistic performance/show.
but anyway, i have no real desire to argue the point and as you say SIGGRAPH is not all bad.

actually no.
they contacted some groups to see if there was the possibility that there was a way to make certain demos work in the live realtime show. they wanted them, but the category was already defined and had the interactivity rule - that was too late to be changed. they were prepared to be pretty generous about what "interaction" was - we didn't need to do the webcam stuff, we just thought it would be cool.
in fact we could have just submitted to the animation category instead which does not require interaction - but wasn't limited to realtime stuff - but we missed the deadline.
the key point is, it's proof that the wider cg community now recognises the demoscene as having something to offer them technically and artistically. that's a good thing isnt it?
