Hearing that I must quote Syphus' thoughts from the attendee side
Quote:
After all, I'm sure everyone else, like me, has got all their family and friends convinced that the Easter weekend is utterly out of bounds because they will *definitely* be at a demoparty. It's taken years to achieve an unconditional state of unavailability for one long weekend each year, and if word gets out that we're suddenly free over Easter, we'll get roped into all sorts of boring crap.

word!

As for quite a huge amount of organizers from breakpoint, many of them will show up. Its just like, if you have been organizing demoparties for 15 years, we just dont know what to do on easter holiday then ;)

Hmm, imagening kb and some others at HOME for eastern is quite hilarious.
"MOOOOOM, where is the Bigscreen? You promised me 3D in FULL HD!" And in the middle of the easter dinner with the "real" family someone screams "PAAANTSS OFF!"

masta, the part of the danish underpants brigade that was at my wedding a couple of years ago actually did a PANTS OFF performance, so you're not far from the truth :)

- it is too far for people from the south (spain, france, italy, even southern germany, although there are "cheap" flights to rygge)
- it is too expensive for many people, especially from eastern europe (incl. travel costs etc... sorry, no offense :( )
- it is not sceners only and somehow could kill the mood. rly.
Can't the same be said about Assembly? Granted, Assembly's timeslot doesn't crash with any other party, but that's not the discussion here.

I don't go to a demoparty to be surrounded by gamers.

Knoeki: I'm pretty sure nobody here goes to parties with being "surrounded by gamers" as their main objective. Still, I've managed to have a pretty sweet time at both Assembly and The Gathering without taking permanent damage. One solution is to, you know... hang with the sceners at the party instead.

i don't want to go to gathering, assembly or any other party with thousands of gamers- would much rather stay at home with the family then.

with gargaj on this one, i just want to see you asses again.

although no alcohol to relieve me of my hatred of other human beings is kind of a dealbreaker for me.

We already know that several party organizers are working on offers for a real Easter 2011 Breakpoint replacement. We might not get the full list of what has made Breakpoint Breakpoint, but we sure are able to achieve far more than "200 sceners in a cage inside a huge gaming party".

I don't think the fall-back plan "everybody instead goes to TG" really has to be seriously considered.

I've had some great times at Assembly and I'm quite surprised that the presence of gamers is such an instant deal-breaker for people - but yep, I agree that neither Assembly nor The Gathering are well suited to be the Breakpoint replacement that everyone's looking for.

I don't think the TG-orgas are trying for a replacement either, just a more viable alternative than before. :)

I say we should just wait for this meeting about a new easter party as announced on Breakpoint. Or alternatively, you can make suggestions and see what you can do to help. Including making kickass demos to be released at that party ;_)

What is now the biggest demoscene only party in the world? Main? Tum? Evoke?

In an old news article from last year (when the officials of Bingen were causing trouble) Mainz was mentioned as seeing demo parties as cultural enrichment: http://www.allgemeine-zeitung.de/region/bingen/bingen/6621533.htm

If the local politicans there are still as happy about demo parties this would solve 8)

I was of course not implying to save up your prods for TNEP (The New Easter Party). At least, not intentionally.

Dunno if it's been suggested, but what about good 'ol Bristol? If memory serves me well, a lot of flights land there from around europe. There is a lot of "talent" around that you might be able to interest.

Or even failing all other stuff.

How about...................................

A MASSIVE DEMOPARTY ROADSHOW!!!? Call it Roaming / Moving Point?
Hold it at the same time of the year, or even every quarter. And at every party, hold a vote on where the next one will be held? Spreadin' the word of the Scene maaaaaaan! Spread it far and wideeeeee! Basically there wouldn't the "too far away" complaint, as the more hardcore sceners will still want to travel to show how good their prods are and allow it to get to people who are either too lazy, or genuinely can't get to the more far away parties.
