As the title states, a demo in its current form holds no more importance to the world of computers than a common screensaver does and is often erroneously seen as something more than a useless program that preserves your screen's immaculate state.

:) Let's be honest though. Technically, demos show off what programmers are able to do with either limited resources or within a limited space. It SHOULD be some sort of benchmark by which corporations decide who should be employed by their enterprise and thus be pumped with loads of capital. Despite that reality, it doesn't seem to hold any kind of importance in the eyes of anyone but the most downtrodden.

Cool things don't need justification- they're just cool.

Well the GOOD demos like Hplus, Chimera, Hyperventilation, Super Luxus, Sea Robot of Love, Killer etc. are a combination of all disciplines combined to become something a little deeper than just some graphics fx. Personally I think a lot of demos suffer more from being a bit 'cheesy' than being unimpressive.

For people not convinced on downloading the screensaver in my link. You really, really should...
