Gamma/Outracks had to come off the list, unfortunately. The encoder couldn't handle the B&W "dithered" flashes well, even at max bitrate.

gotta love you for taking "fr-theta" onto it !
you´ll have to wait for my ordering tho until i can afford some blu-ray-player/ps3 !
( dont even have any dvd-player yet, that poor i am, haha )
You won't need a blu-ray player to order -- the package will come with the main timeline (3 hours of demos with commentary) on a DVD! We wanted people to be able to enjoy it and upgrade whenever Blu-Ray players hit 50 euros or something reasonable.

The special features will be on the blu-ray though.

That, and the fact that you actually won't be prohibited by law or force to order something you cannot play back just yet. :) Buy now, watch later.

Well, yeah, but since the commentary is the awesome part for dedicated sceners, at least you'll be able to experience that right out of the box.

OMG Vol3 is coming, bless you trixter and all the other guys involded in this. The Commentary from Vol1 and 2 is very nice and insightful for somebody like me the did demos 15 years ago :)
Debris - my most favorite demo ever is on the list
as well as Lifeforce - which is artisticly the most impressing demo i have seen so far ... but i still have to watch 2009 partys

Thanks SOOOO much for putting out Vol3 AND making it a blue ray, my ps3 need something to play ... games ain't fun -.- (except gran turismo)

We've been a bit slow, but, it's coming along well. We have permissions in for most of the demos, and will start pushing for commentary soon. We already have several groups offering to make some!

We are still desperately seeking Memon/Moppi Productions, so we can have Ix featured on the disc. Abyss kindly gave me an email address, but I have not heard back from him (Memon) yet. Please help get him (or someone else in the group who can get his permission) in touch with us - my email is xprojected (a yahoo (.com).

are you guys going to use x264 for AVC compression?

it's pretty impressive. throw a few megabits at it and you can compensate for blu-ray's quirks like slices and reference frames, etc...

here's a crappy, quick encode i did for Masagin (obviously, it's a simpler demo...) ..probably also optimized for low bitrate, etc...

That's great. Go make a demo about it.

please always use bbcode in this thread when refering to something.

plonk: We're not using x264 because blu-ray has some constraints that x264 happily throws away :-) so the encoder output isn't usable. Average bitrate will be 25mbps which testing has shown to be just barely acceptable (by me, which means it will be more than acceptable for everyone else), so no need to worry about the quality.

BTW I don't get what you mean by "quirks". H.264 enhancements are quirks?

BTW2 there is much quantization noise in your encode ;-) But at least you got the framerate correct!

plonk420: it would have been so much more cooler if you'd have captured masagin's own motion blur.
added on the 2010-01-19 09:30:31 by xTr1m xTr1m
trixter: what constraints exactly? there's basically no settings in x264 that you can't easily fix with a command line option or two. :)

ryg: Maybe he's referring to the super-complicated HRD stuff that x264 doesn't get quite right currently. No decoder (that I know of) does actually care about that, but it must be correct for 100% Blu-ray compatible streams, just because the spec says so.
