I don't know if someone has already made this as I didn't bother to check..

A few days ago I started wondering what the RIT would look like in animated form, i.e. if you created a movie where each picture from the RIT would be one frame.

So I wrote a program that tries to download every bbimage-tagged picture in the RIT, and outputs the successfully downloaded ones to an XviD encoded video stream in an AVI file.

Needless to say, downloading ~45,000 images can take a while, especially if you do it sequencially like my program does. I left it running for about 16 hours while I was sleeping / at work /etc, which I believe is what Planck would refer to as "a fuckload" of time.

Every now and then there are parts in the movie where the same picture will be shown for a relatively long time. I'm not sure if it's because people have been playing the Copy-Paste game in the RIT, or because of a bug in my program.. It's a bit annoying in any case. Perhaps I'll make some adjustments to the program and let it run again someday, who knows.

It started maybe for months ago. I'm not sure if this is a customer-wide block or just for me.

Upload it to vimeo or youtube. I'm curious to see such master piece.

snoutmate: Yup, I was going to suggest that. The median images resulted extrange being able to observe patterns in the not so random image thread.

But the video was mighty interesting , becuase, even tough you can't see anything, your mind can with freaky detail (specially the more impacting images), also it has some cool music to boot, that I hear from time to time :D

Remove the duplicate images, add some kewl music, send it to a Wild compo, and who knows, you could win some copyright violation letters ;)

Watching it slowed down some with added motion blur makes it feel like a generic movie brainwash/suggestion/hypnosis scene.

I think the parts where one image is on for several seconds is when someone posted a post repeating that image a thousand times. Maybe you could only display each image once per post only, regardless of how often it is repeated within that post.

some suggestions :

remove some pictures :
- every image really small shouldnt be there
- same for pictures with poor quality (check size)
movie should play slower (not by doubling frames, by adjusting framerate)
you should make it more interactive than a slideshow :
- by adding some morphing between images or transitions
- by sorting them by color hue (to know the color of a picture make an average of colors of each pixel) eg : first red pictures then orange, the yellow ones, like a rainbow
