Seeing it in real-time at a demoparty first is a good thing, since things tend to appear sharper than they are when read on the internet.

Anyway, the whole "the BBS needs restructuring"-thing is an entirely different matter from "do we really want obvious trolling-"demos" on this site?", which the thread was about.


Of course, banning doesn't really work in the long run, and I'm not for it either. What I take offense for is wording such as yours right there Okkie, that anyone who goes "WTF? i guess bbs is just fine. kinda nice currently, actually, and i don't see any problem with that.

the reason why i've started this thread is the amount of prods released based on the rule 'look ma, i can code hello world. dunno how to setpixel, but i can has demotoolz!'. that's simply... pathetic. and i've used BITS as an FUCKIN' EXAMPLE. that's not 'pouet-appearance problem' or 'BITS problem' or 'bbs problem' or 'don't attack that poor beginners problem'. hell no.

it's about tolerance for lameness and stupidity. of course, everyone was a beginner in some time. everyone made something looking like crap at least once. but we all learn, right? unfortunately, no. why? because it's internet, because they don't have to. because they know noone will give a shit. and no, pouet won't decrease it's activity once such crap would be removed. the reason is simple: we have thousands of prods, most of them not bad at all. but when someone releases another BITS-alike shit, fascist crap or other look-ma-wild-demo-with-penises, and it lands on the front-page, it stays there because it causes some controversy. and what's the point of keeping those at all? are you really so fuckin' scared that demoscene will die as soon as those won't be tolerated? demoscene is not dead, and never will be. and saying that pouet should not be clean and professional has nothing to do with it. i agree with kb, there were threads like how to open fullscreen opengl window under linux and so. no problems with that. everyone was a beginner in one day. demoscene == friendship. but when someone DOES NOT WANT TO LEARN, he's not a beginner anymore. he's a lamer.

just look at the stardreamers prods, comments in those, and their bbs thread as well. at the start i was about to believe that it's some beginner, trying to find his way and learning how to code demos. after his 3rd prod, there are 2 possibilities imho, either he's so stupid or it's some kind of BITS fork. as long as he keeps his attitude (which is getting worse from prod to prod, looking at his comments), i guess it's all fine. just a lame kid, not really wanting to learn anything, just trying to show off his 'skillz'. and now comes the question, 10 years ago, would he have any chance? on parties? would he have any chance today, even on the smallest party out there, whichever it is? of course not. but here's the internet, here's the pouet, and here's the paradise for every single lame demo-maker-wannabe, because whatever they'll do, it'll be judged either as lack of skills, or BITS-alike stupidity. it's just that the latter really should go elsewhere. we have enough prods being released. we really don't need lame/offensive/fascist/otherwise stupid shit imho.

nosfe: that's a method, i agree. i'm overreacting probably, that's also true. but when you're allowing one lame kid to add prods on pouet, you're allowing same to whole bunch of them. and also, there's a saying - 'please, don't feed the trolls' - thumbing them down is just that, and i don't think people will just ignore their crap. so it's kind of perpetuum mobile, which won't stop, and eventually can grow up out of proportion.

also, i'm not speaking about 'lack of quality' - i'm speaking about 'lack of quality *on purpose*'. which is what BITS is about, and not only BITS, as i've said before. from all of them, BITS are actually not the worse at all, because you still need some skills to release crap on almost every possible platform.

so? some people do like the prods which are intentionally made to be as bad as possible.

i've never had any problems ignoring stuff that i dont want to see. heck, i havent even bothered to watch any of the bits productions,
