Codex Scæna, Draft .02

category: general [glöplog]
“…positive communication could potentially lead to good things: more people wanting to learn English …”

What is this? The English Nazis?

“…or potentially to another component in Codex Scæna specifically for advertising parties.”

If I wanted to see advertising, I would turn on the tv.

I finally found time last night, after a couple years, to update my ojuice profile text. The photo is still old and my information will become outdated again. Ojuice works fine when I want to look up someone’s information…That doesn't mean mine is up to date of course.. What you should do is create something like ii2.org.. that would be fun :)

kb- Are you guys missing the part where I say 'rough early draft', 'concept', etc? Really, I understand the scene ethos of 'build it and they will come--or perhaps not', but I don't think I was at all masking the fact that I would need real help--yours--in putting it together. I was more or less looking for, in this early posting, some chatter in terms of "yeah, that's an interesting idea, but what about trying...". You know, good 'ole CONSTRUCTIVE feedback.

I have an idea. Drop the words "Zephyr Industries" from the top, change the wording to add more zeros for Os and sevens for Ts. Make the post appear to be a Farb-Rausch production announcement soliciting feedback and we'll watch the miraculously altered results.

Yeah. It's amazing to me, frankly, that there is such firey cynicism being hurled at the idea just because no one knows who I am. As far as I've ever been able to tell, no one gives another the "right" to do anything here--you just do it, and see what happens. Certainly fair enough. Somewhere along the line, however, someone's coming up with ideas. Despite the backlash, I don't see why I should be afraid to posit mine just because they are, by definition, ideas.

And kb, the scene may be special to YOU because it consists of creative people. But it's special to me because I have made many friends around the world through its rough-edge graces... Some by your definition creative, some perhaps not. That's always been the more interesting part to me, and to expand this sphere is the more-or-less the reason for the idea. Wow, what a radical fucking concept.

PS- I'm aware of the Qt situation, and in fact have the solution: a professional developer license.

concerning the issue, i really must TOTALLY agree with kb. what would this codex be good for ? why is there a need to unify the demoscene ? why is there a need to explain what the demoscene is ? can this be done anyway, or is it differentiated enough to make such an approach impossible ? this idea is ridiculous an inapplicable as writing a book about the punk/skinhead/metal/straightedge/gothic scene. it is impossible to unify and impossible to explain in terms that would be at hand when writing about it.

wad_: i am completely sure that the feedback has nothing to do with you being a scene celebrity or not. if kb had proposed that idea, i would have reacted in the same way.

richard- That's an idea, really... But again, not everyone uses ojuice.net. The "open" address book I propose would be accessible in any number of different ways, the 'visual overview' being one of them. Does anyone know anything about the way ojuice stores their user data?

I think this is a great idea, especially the part about the weather. It'd really help my appreciation of demos knowing that it's raining in Germany or snowing in Finland. Honestly.
rac- I'm certain that you're right about a great many, that they would prefer to stay within the confines of their circles. And that's fine... AGAIN, no one HAS to do anything. However, what I'm talking about here... *drumroll* is potentially extending things beyond the traditional (European?) borders by making international contact more inviting.

Anyway, this discussion/argument is apparently pointless, and I get it: make this thing first, then we'll ____. So, unless anyone wants to make helpful suggestions, case closed indeed (for now?).

but, to mention something about the topic at hand, its a cute idea but like everyone said, its too naive to work. and the whole groupname thing is about trust. you do need some sort of decent reputation before people trust and support your stuff in the scene. something that lets people know that you really care about the scene, dedication to the cause and what not..
it's not a matter of "if a famous scener from a famous group would say a similar idea everyone would support him", i had similar thoughts of scenes unification ideals (alot bigger detailed and more usefull then yours wad..) and lots of ppl i shared my visions with all told me that its sweet in theory but wouldnt work in practise, and they are quite right, its somewhat of an utopia. the scene wants and needs to have its own group and country niches. its somewhat a part of its charm aswell.. same kind of reason why we still use our nicks instead of real names.. its somewhat of a tradition thing aswell.. even though more and more projects come to bind all the scenes together somewhat, mostly due to the wonders of globalization; the scene is globally united only in spirit.

if i was you wad i would do a scene related websites and resources list instead of another sceners database. not all sceners really like to be listed on databases, specially having to reveal their true identity and location, thats nice for musician comunity sites and the likes, not for underground computer cultures..

I wish to share you my ultracool project ideas I had in my mind since years but never gonna make, hehe, so it's nicer to point out here so perhaps another one gets inspired ;)

===================================================================================================

THE SINS
The ultimate scene simulator game. You start as a newcomer. Choose your date of learning the scene, your computer, your country, your personal data, a group and anything. Generate, balance, edit your personal ability bars. Wie in RPGs are, Str, Int, Wis, Dex, Con, Cha,. in my simulator, they will be things having to do with motivation, mood, depression, geekness, arrogance, enthousiasm, and a lot lot lot lot lot more I can think in order to have a simulation of how easilly it is for the scener you are plaining, to get motivated to finish his latest demo, get a life, a scene or a real, or quit. Or be happy or unhappy. Things will influence like visiting a demoparty or having a flame the last night with another asshole. Yep,. the ultimate scene simulation! And a history book will be written too. A screen with a geek and a computer screen will appear after some turns when you click on "research for a new effect for (n) hours", depending if you succeeded or quitted. The screen will have a tune wie civilization. Tada tada tada tada tada. zb "Optimus has discovered the fire effect" and the fire effect will be running on the geeky screen :) Then,. the effects will have tree diagrams. If you discover the zoom, you can combine with fire and make feedback effect! Exactly as Civilization ;))) And much more! I can put more detail and concept in the perfect scene simulation game, group wars, flaming sceners, opening web project, poueting, or even hunting down female sceners ;)))

That was one of the thing I would definitelly want to see. So,. because I will never make it,. I would live at least to be able to play it in the future :)

JAVA EFFECT DATABASE
i was thinking about that too. Like a big database with every effect and every compination I can think. You can choose the effect from the list or categories or anything. I will think it. You choose plasma. There are type of plasmas (with hardware, software, pure software, with a nasty trick like in C64, and more.) You choose the machine. You get infos. When was it done for the first time in Amstrad. By which coder. Via which way. Some infos or source code if possible. When it was done in C64. When it was done regardless the machine. Historical data. Then a visual tutorial or textual ones. All the informations, technical, machine or historical or funny facts about Plasma! And for the others too. In a neat database site with Java for showing the effects. Wow!

MY OWN DEMOSCENE INTRODUCTION PAGE
A good one not messy. Mostly with the most important or basic informations for someone who wants to join a scene. But for machine scenes. For example,. let's say I am a C64 coder that wants to get started with CPC. But it would be great to find that site, to say this is the scene, these are the basic links to the pages,. these are the assembler, this is a small tutorial for the asm, the gfx and the music tools, I recomend this, he recomend this,.. but small. The best demos of the machine. The known groups. The scene today. And then for every fuckin machine I wanted to get into and never managed to. Elegant, easy and cool! The scenes are connected. It's great! And someone gets easilly into other machines and learns about it's scene. But a very brief (can I do it?), elegant and giving the perfect needed infos (Awhat?). And an introduction to the demoscene and all perfect. Infos,. I like infos!

THE ULTIMATE DVD DEMOSCENE COLLECTION
A DVD with all demos. All! And all machines!!! The perfect thing I can have! Again the ultimate database (I like databases where I can find everything, even statistical data! Perfect bits :). Categorized like Pouet or more, but with more stuff interesting. With credits, coders, everything,. and effect again. You search on the fucking greatest search engine ever: "Which is the first PC demo having Voxel" or "Which demos have '2d colored bump mapping' with '3 lightsources' AND 'midi sound'", or "I want the demo with the graphic picture having a naked granny and the one tit falling" (Guess which is that ;) or the one "with the music sounded like jazz or funk". SOmething like that! Records,. facts,. and more. And more search in facts, effects, in the great demodatabase. And then you can run it with a click! Yeah!!! A perfect PC emulator running from windows (and DOS and Linux and BeOS too :) which is written uppon the database. The facts in each demo inside the database will also say for example "memory: EMS and 570kb conventional, sound: GUS only, gfx: Vesa1.2 required, etc.." the database will know and will run the demo through the emulator or through not if you prefer! Like having all demos and not letting reboot to run them. But also having all interesting facts and waking up in the morning and saying "I am wondering how much demos had a Torus or a Duck". Search: "Demo: 3d models: DUCK && TORUS != anim, but 3d realtime, bitch,. ruska, powah, youghturs". Hahahaha! THE PERFECT!!! Having everything (Perhaps I will need a 16GB DVD) and not only PC but also C64, CPC and every machine, every demo, even every Wild (I will think of the perfect video compression scheme,. DivX will rotten!)!!!

What else? Uhmm...

Let's see the dreamy plans on my mobile. Uhm,. I might stop now. My last one is "Experimental simulation/proof with a raytracer of huge dimensions that the earth is actually still flat!!!". Wow,. that would rule ;)

Oh no!,. no more to say, they are TOP SECRET!!! Sorry,. fun is over. I do have 10ths or hundreds, most not that big, but it would take ages to analyze. Rulex! Rulex! Rulex!

Optimus is back rockin roll!!! =))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

p.s. Sorry. Just Drank one of the Ouzo's I first bought for Sota. BLAH :P

we are all playing reallife SINS, it's even more fun than the game (btw the name 'SINS' also deserves a point :)

(maybe we should include in the game that a very advanced user can learn how to implement SINS itself (then imagine the thing recursively :)))

>we are all playing reallife SINS

Exactly my thoughts lately! Scene is like an RPG game. I have a nickname, always feel like playing a role in this community, sometimes taking it too seriously though, but my view changed when I met some people at TUM. They were real people :)

When I got back, it was the same RPG because I couldn't see the sceners in real life. I was Optimus, I liked some people, I disliked some others, because someone flamed me while others were friendly, others are trying to be productive just for the sake of it, others are lazy or whatsoever, some are trying to reach a higher point of activity and fame or whatever anyone wishes from the demoscene anyways.

It really seems like an RPG to me. Because I feel like Optimus and when I think of the nickname, it gives me some properties, that doesn't give me exactly in real life. And because I tried to have some focus inside this smaller world inside a world. Wow!

>maybe we should include in the game that a very advanced user can learn how to implement SINS itself (then imagine the thing recursively :)

Do you believe that I made exactly the same thought, while riding my bicycle till home, minutes after leaving the big text?! A SINS inside a SINS inside a SINS inside a SINS!!!

And I thought not only that the game will not tell you plainly: "You (or another scener too) have developed the game SINS" and then "You played your game (or of the other scener) and you (or another scener) develop SINS inside it which you can play". But if as a user in the SINS game, you play an imaginary SINS, a new game of SINS will be started which will be actually a new saved game linked to the first one. If in that second saved game (the second reality), you quit the imaginary SINS game, you will return to the first game with your first imaginary scener. If you quit again, you just return to the real reality :)

Realities, inside realities, with saves and subsaves linked. LOL!!!

Also,. I am kinda surprised by the synchronity of our thoughts! Or are you just reading mine? :)
