legend of kane (1985) level 1 music remixed/"stolen" by Ben Daglish for Last Ninja 1 (1987). (not that I care, I liked the 64 tune more, anyway:)

Wade: so you're saying Utah Saints stole from themselves?

Megablast was licensed with permission for Xenon 2. Don't know if they cleared the Carpenter bit for the original track though.

The same goes for the tunes used in e.g. Magic Pockets, Gods and Speedball 2. Just so you know, and so you don't need to post more uninformed "they timbalanded lol" crap.

btw, I was just joking, in the theme of the original post. :)

Ahahaha, seriously thinking that Quincy Jones would steal a video game soundtrack :D Classic.

Ooh, so we can ask Herman Li to play with us in BASS now!
The Dragonforce guys never made it a secret that they are huge nerds and love old videogame music. I don't think it's stealing, it's a homage to Last Ninja 2, only to be recognized by the old and severely nerdy :)

I don't know much about the band, but I guess you're right about the homage part.

I even listened the whole song (aargh) to check out which role the LN part played in it. Nothing crucial, although it wasn't just something thrown in, but something that was integrated nicely and what served as a good starting point for one of the worst guitar solos I've heard - a sort of a bridge between a sung part and the solo.

They didn't give Daglish any credit, as the song is credited to guitar player Sam Totman. I'm pretty sure if those 30 seconds were composed by some other member of the band, we'd see 2 names in the credits. Also, if they'd paid their homage to let's say Abba instead of Daglish, then they would've had to pay more than just their homage. There's of course the possibility that they had asked Daglish's permission and that he said okay. If it's truly a homage, it would seem very likely.

I personally don't like the idea of treating old video game music as something you can "borrow" and put on your record (and in this case DVD) and sell it (as your own work) just because you like it.

What I found the most shocking here is that Okkie thinks that this has something to do with The Last Ninja 2.

nice thread, even though some clueless tonedeafs had posted videos aswell. especially the Sonic themes were far fetched, except the vs. Andy Williams bit, but that melody is just so damn generic, like something straight outta finnish schlager [tm]

this one rules

Tempest: a googling bringes me to the Commodore Remix forum where Chris Abbott says:

Quote:
The band "gave" Ben Daglish 10% of their royalties for the track for using that solo

where the "gave" is in quotes because:

Quote:
The guys were cool about it, it was their record company once they were properly signed who needed a bit of, shall we say, persuading

So i guess all is well :)

Archmage: I don't even know how the hell that happened! I just watched that bloody video before posting o_O
