PSP - homebrew antifriendly
category: general [glöplog]
I just bought a PSP. I wanted to see a demo. A friggin demo. Anything! And from the hundreds I uploaded in the memory duo card, nothing runs! Some say to name GAME to GAME150 or GAMEyourfirmware (mine is 373 now), but only GAME without number shows the contents here. Even 1 in 100 doesn't run!!! NOTHING.
Some say to downgrade the bios. I have the castlevania game inside and that upgraded my bios or else it doesn't play. So,. every time I want to watch a new demo, should I downgrade the bios (and how can I do this? Is it a pain in the ass?) and then when I want to play a game to reupgrade the bios again?
I just want to watch a simple demo. Any scene demo! What can I do??? (my PSP is the first edition, not the lite one, and I bought it because they said lite was harder to downgrade. But still..) Why is it so hard to run homebrew here?

yeh, you need to downgrade to older firmware for homebrew stuff and demos.
Dunno if it helps abit
you need to get a custom firmware
Do I also need to buy the Pandora battery? Can I find it in a local store here or only from ebay?
grand theft auto ftw ^_^
That chart is stupid. You can install custom firmare on all except the very latest PSP models using Pandora battery and Despertar del Cementerio v6+.
Just find someone with a fat PSP and custom firmware and tell him to install 4.01M33 with 1.50 addon on your PSP. Link me beautiful.
No, you don't need to buy the battery, and standard fat PSP battery can be converted to Pandora and back with software using homebrew enabled PSP.

This entire topic is stupid - PSP is by definition not homebrew friendly :)
yeh, optimus you should have sticked with the gp2x

Yeah! Also, Team Pokeme should have just sat at home wanking rather than making Shizzle.
parapete: what he was trying to say is that when it doesnt run on the DEMOKIT it's not worthwhile! :P
maali: but dont worry, you'll all get one!!
Someone should learn to use Google....
What I ment was that it's a bit daft to claim the PSP isn't homebrew friendly, when it's just _that one latest version_ that isn't. I think TBL has already proven the PSP is quite homebrew friendly, and has been for quite some time. :)
I dont have a psp myself but I recall that one scener (a_lee_n I think) bought two psp's so he could have one with upgraded bios for gaming and one for running homebrew. I dont think that sounds very homebrew friendly, and I dont see how the existance of a demo by tbl changes that.
hollowman: thats no more necessary for quite a while. the pandora exploit changed it all, you can up- and downgrade all you want (but thanks to the custom firmwares you hardly have to anyway) and that with (almost) zero risk. custom fw even nicely integrates homebrew stuff and the more evil things too =)
that particular tbl demo however, is infact a nice counterexample :) atleast the first version required the 1.5 firmware (custom fw didnt even exist then iirc) and chip couldnt be arsed to fix it =) maybe the later released version changed that, never tried :)

groeoaz: The final works fine on my PSP, which is 3.5x - in fact, the original does as well.
ah, ok.... i only remember there were problems running it via psplink (which didnt work well in 2.0 at that time), never copied it to memstick :)
psplink is the best thing after sliced bread.
now that's some news, optimus.
btw. i think psp has the greatest homebrew community out there.
check psp-updates.com, they used to cover alot homebrew news and stuff.

Concidently I am in the exact same situation now, with a slim psp and no fat psp around to do the pandora trick on.
if you can wait for tum i'll do the downgrading (and installation of a custom firmware if you wish) for you (and everybody else who's interested)
and if you're at the party of course
