My brother, clearly. He gave me some of his old disks when I got his ST back in the early 90s (maybe even late 80s, whatever), and there were demos on some of them. I've been interested in the scene since back then, watching it more or less closely. For my lack of activity in any group, I'd rather call myself a passive scener though ;)

i already said what got me into the scene, but i'd just like to add what got me ACTIVE in the scene :)

Haujobb's We took the green pill, ending with the line:
we've all taken our turn.

That somehow clicked, and i knew it was my turn.

What got me in the scene was watching some demos and doing coding, but mostly reading old Hugis and Imphobias.

And then discovering what "talking about one, doing the other" really means.

1993 i got my first cdrom, so i bought a freeware cd names peagasus 3.0.
There was a stronge folder named demos on it, and i thought: Lets look whats inside.
They were alphabetically sorted, and i started with the first subfolder.
It was named "2NDREAL"

I think the first demo i saw was like verses by emf. i saw some other shit to, cant really remember all of their names. but my favorite groups was orange and complex and not to mention triton and future crew. they where my heroes in those times. now im into demoproduction myself, and soon.. hopefully for the next TG there will be a mindblowing software demo out. well it is for you to decide whether its good or not. the most important thing is that me and the members of my group have a nice time making it.
I am very fond of oldschool demos with a twist of newschool. it doesnt have to be lots of 3d like most of the demos are today. but nowadays you cant really live without them in demos.. one of the reasons i like chimera/halcyon is that they made something totally different. fuck 3d if you want to make something different. 3d can be lame if its hardware(meaning its been done in opengl or direct3d) except for those who make really good 3d demos i respect those. but 2d is cool in many ways and should be brought out more.. flame me now or dont.
It was either the 604 demo or Fr-08 intro can't remember might of been stoned at the time.

If you had to choose would you rather be poked in the eyes with a stick or whacked in the teeth?
If it's POKES and PRODS it's either demo programming or someone with a stick

2nd reality/FC, Dosis / Genesis, and Agent Orange/Orange discovered some things of the demoscene. Later prods and diskmags (being the latter my favourite scene productions in my beggining) made me consider to join a group and start producing :)

Orange - The secret life of Mr. Black got me into the scene. It was featured on a cd that came with a norwegian computermagazine (Tekno)

Seeing some people introduced to the demoscene by .theProduct or the Siggraph2003 gives me white hairs @__@ It hurts at 25yo

Since I've used my cousin's VIC20, and saw some CG animations of IMAGINA ( things like TinToy or Tron ) in the early-mid 80's, I've always been interrested in computers and computer graphics. It's some cracktros, games and demos on Amstrad, Atari ( the the Union Demo, ... ) and Amiga ( Virtual World, ... ) that definitely got me in the demoscene.

Totally unaware of demoscene, i had gotten myself a GUS ACE - this was just logical after i have had a ton of soundcards, including an AWE32 - since i had heard that GUS has superior sounds... Note that this was very hard in Ukraine. I got it around 1996, and on the driver CDs there were all the classical demos which run with GUS - from FC, Triton, all others between 1992 and 1994. This made me a great fan of demoscene, once and for all.
BTW, i now live in Germany and still collect souncards: TB MuSo Pinnacle, EWS64, 3 SBLive cards...
No, the collection is not for sale. I'd give it to noone but my very beloved girl - who doesn't care. Please don't ask, you cannot convince me!
