Demoscene is dead

category: residue [glöplog]
Gargaj: I'll distrub you one last time:

Go get some food + drink, lock your door, unplug your modem + phone, and finish that engine. SAVE THE SCENE!

i will. (and i have cablenet :))

but honestly, if one can troll you off of making a demo... then you most likely never felt what feeling is when your demo is hammering on the party audio and the visuals just make the party ppl go wild.

that's the reason i make demos, and that's the reason i don't really plan to stop it for a while...

i think hiroyoshi's comment proves the topic's starter VERY wrong.

I agree completely. I think the only thing that would kill the scene would be world war 3, and no electricity for a very long time.

the lack of electricity would only complicate stuff like keeping beer cold at parties, but i guess moving parties to riverbanks would solve that.

We'd certainly see better quality in the wild compos. No more shitty videos :) Who will be first to make a MANUAL typewriter demo? ;)

yeah, and the demos will be quite different.
the good'ole fire effect might have a huge comeback.

the main difference from nowadays scene and "old" scene is the very lack of productions between two parties.
We used to see very good demos before released for fun simply coming from swappers and spreaders.

But if we look closer, most impressive demos have always been released at demoparties. (remember Hardwired, Odyssey, Arte (hi Chaos ;) ), on Amiga?)

the problem is that swappers and spreaders disappeared to the profit of Internet. The viewer envy of a production is not the same and the impact is then weaker .

the best way to have your work rewarded/ recognized/mainstreamed is to realize it at parties, and for hard work demos, biggest are recommended ! :)

The way demos are realized has changed, but it doesn't mean that demoscene is dead!

ryg: while not falling for your "arrogant-yerks"-trolling, I'd like to ask how your commercial/siggraph-success proves anything about the demo-scene, especially regarding the things pK said? And yes, chaos, that is a serious question.

"I am excited !! 50 dollars or more !!"
Nope. That one drew a complete blank....

How about 'Just close your eyes, forget your name. Forget the world, forget the people.' That was a real classic, anyone have an mp3???

(Second) Reality is that which doesn't go away when you stop believing in it.(PK docet)
If we all stop believing in demoscene it will for sure fade to end.
This is the demonstration that demonstrations are not real.
So how can an Unreal thing die ?
We all are a living Paradox.

psionice: It's "Close your eyes (Overdose) by Acen" and, yes, I have it on a 128kbit mp3 :-)

...along with around 1 gig of other legendary breakbeat tunes. Interested? :-)

Here's another one I love:
"Every possee and crew out there... the future is before your eyes...(echo)"

oh, and other remixes of "James Brown is dead" included "James Brown is still alive", "Who the f*&k is James Brown" and "James Brown is brown"... He was rather popular back then, you see :-P

the quote was Dimension of Holofonic Sound - "The House of God"

but anyway ...

the scene is ... **RE-ANI-MATE !**

'Dots, that make up a long, dark tunnel'. That tune was pretty revolutionary back then, called 31 seconds. Was probably the first drum+bass tune if I remember right. I always wondered if it was talking about demo-style dot tunnels, but I couldn't find one 'with a very bright light at the end'. Anyone know?

Mot: Everything I had from those days was on tape, which was of course recorded over :) Only cds I have now are a few shit commercial ones I picked up free from somewhere a few years back, so yeah I'm interested :) I'll email.

"Demoscene is dead"

bah. new pouet users, new prods, new groups... the scene will die the day the pouet oneliner will cease to update. so, it won't be tomorrow, or next week/month/year/decade. till then, watch and enjoy!

Psionice : sorted mate !! its called valley of the shadows by origin unknown

and it says "Felt that I was in this long dark tunnel"
Weyland, that's the one, valley of the shadows. But i'm pretty sure that the version I had says 'dots that make up this long dark tunnel'. I'll have to grab an mp3 from somewhere and re-listen :)

It's a pretty well known NASA sample from the Apollo missions, so I'm quite sure about the absence of dots !

"31 seconds (to autosequence start)"
The 31 seconds bit year, definately nasa sample or similar, but the long dark tunnel bit was in a childs voice if I remember right. I'll have a look on the web, see if I can see anything.
