Respect to Drifters... Respect to Clary

category: general [glöplog]

First of all i have to mention that BOOOING out a production that was VOTED on first place sucks like hell.

If this production is from DRIFTERS, who show us the true amiga scene spirit since 20 years now - it even more sucks.

I agree, like everyone - even drifters themselves - that the demo from ELUDE was awesome, a masterpiece of art, code, direction, skills.

And here comes the point:
I read several threads where ppl said that clary was stating " We refuse."
Which is wrong and might be understood in the wrong context.

Clary stated "We cannot accept that. please let the crowd clapvoting if they want elude to get first prize".

To be honest, this gesture gets my deepest respect.
Clary and her groupmates showed that prizemoney cant compete with the true old spirit of the scene.

Drifters - we love you.
Thanks for showing what its really all about.

byte, err word. fully agreed.
I think the elude demo was really boring. I was really glad to see it didn't win, tho I was hpoing that "Surfing Great Victoria" would win.

No it doesn't! Did you notice the vote difference?!

How many ppl voted? Seriously! I didn't talk to anyone that voted and I talked to a lot of ppl! When I woke up to submit the key the voting was already closed. If ppl really disaproved the booing they should have counter-booinged it by clapping and yelling yeah and woooo and such.

No disrespect to Drifters.

well while its a brave move from them drifters, it was the audience who thought different than the drifters and voted for them to win, so the audience could feel insulted for being disrespected by drifters giving their price away. i couldnt care less myself what anyone does with their price(s) though. i was eating popcorn and buffering the stream.

To end this pretty useless discussion once and for all:

fact #1: the demo wasn't made to win any party
fact #2: it won the breakpoint demo compo because apparently enough ppl voted for it
fact #3: we were quite shocked when we saw it got #1 ranking (i guess you all know what a "wtf?!?! experience" is
fact #4: we didn't even have to think about giving away the first price to kiero and co. because they deserved it.

so what's all the fuzz about? And Xernobyl, no offense but you should't talk about things you don't really understand!

Doing a prod that's nearly 100% animation? Yeah this is what demos are all about! Scene spirit ftw!!!
Well I'll just send fuckings to the sleazy voters and booers who did not boo the sleazy voters. The drifters production is ok in my book and actually had some fresh ideas(which happens way too rarely in these days) even if it was going for some nostalgia voting.

Respect to Drifters for giving out the place!

Parapete: same to you, don't speak about things you don't really understand! except for the ham8 mpg player everything is realtime so spare me your "nearly 100% animation" comments. Thank you, your friendly "it's done in realtime, damn it" neighbourhood coder.

All the winners of Breakpoint compos should have given their prizes to who they think should have won.

That would have been real scene spirit ...

This is quite almost like what happened last year in the console compo - the rather "fun" TBL demo for the PSP won over the technical masterpiece. Of course no disrespect to drifters - i loved your demo.

+1 for Drifters for the scene spirit!

All those people should have voted instead of boo-ed.

I know I voted, an honestly I put anouther demo in 1st place as well but thats just being part of a voting minority then.

Actually, lots and lots of fuckings to drifters for not crediting me for the GFX i made them. The floppy and CD in the demo are made by me. Clary said it would be in the NFO, but i don't see an NFO anywhere.
The only thing they changed was the cd "label".

Ignore parapete; he's having his fucking period or something.

Complex waveform samples in mod files aren't generated in realtime. Are we going to go through a 20 year back-catalogue to boo every demo whose '100% realtime' credentials are suddenly obviated by our realignment of the technological goalposts? Is this an digital art subculture or a fucking gathering of the Autistic Pedant's Association? Mpg data within a realtime screen/timeline, raw sample data within a replayer timeline... Duuuuhrr.

While I understand your anger this was NOT done on purpose! Actually, the only reason why there is no .nfo yet is because the ascii is missing. As soon as the ascii is finished, there'll be an .nfo and you'll be credited of course. Next time, before sending out fuckings, it might be good to ask first. ;)
