Which are the 'high status' demo parties nowadays?
category: general [glöplog]
Back in the day we three big parties (TG, Asm and TP) that drew a big crowd and many nice releases.
Nowadays there are only two parties that seem to keep that level BP and Asm.
Are there any other parties that have built up a reputation for gathering quality releases year after year lately?

The Ultimate Meeting always has nice productions.
at least Evoke and Tum have an excellent record of quality releases over years
Real party is outside.
MZG is the highest status party ever.
Yeah, TUM and Evoke seems like good candidates for a 'second-tier' just below the two top parties.
Hmm.. Maybe we could calculate a partys 'release-quality-rank' by simply adding the thumbs up - thumbs down for all prods released. So a party with 5 very good prods or 20 so-so ones would each get quite a lot of points.
I'm not quite bored enough to try and do that for all 2007 parties though... :)

That's not a very good metric, since even good entries at parties like Breakpoint get drowned into the masses (just check out how many thumbs the prods that are placed after the fifth place or so get and compare the quality of those prods to prods from smaller parties that get a lot more thumbs), and the entries in the beginning of the year have a lot more time to accumulate the thumbs.
Well just off the top of my head (I haven't actually been to any demoparties) I think of (in order) asm, bp, buenzli, tUM, and Evoke. Those are just names of parties that come to mind...so they must mean something.
oh, and also Robinson Boozoe. That's the second most important party.
OUTLINE
because it has the most invs!
next time i'll try to combine my shoutout with the argumentation in one sentence!
i usually divide whats left after asm and bp by countries, completly disregarding the ones that went commercial downhill like tg, dreamhack, euskal and such.
so for me the ones that will most probably contain some decent quality productions in 2008 (and i might be forgetting some, no insults intended)
finland: stream, simulatio, icons, altparty
germany: evoke, tum
norway: solskogen, kindergarden
sweden: lcp
spain: bcn (an maybe inspire)
uk: sundown
russia: chaos constructions
swiss: bunzli
italy: horde
hungary: function
holland: outline
france: numerica

doesnt the gathering actually still have quite decent releases?
ps: haven't you forgotten anything ? what about inércia ?
smash: last year they managed a new high of 3.. but i guess that depends on the definition of decent..
The decent to crap ratio at TG is worse than a lot of other parties, but the top productions from TG has held a decent level the last years. Groups like PlayPsyCo, Outracks and Portal Process have preferred TG over BP (for various reasons), and in addition to that we've had some nice "guestreleases" from foreigners like ASD, FLT and neusnask. Not to forget that Ephidrena and Spaceballs have released some nice stuff there as well.
The second tier releases at TG have been dramatically poorer than the second tier releases at BP, basically because this tier at TG is made up of starters which are just starting out doing demos. Not really surprising as TG mostly see norwegian releases, while BP draws an international crowd.
@PS: I think you will see that 3 is not "a new high" if you take a look at the last years releases. Also, TG has managed to stay clear of voting crap like Winnerdemo to the top, that's gotta count for something? :P

Oh come on lug00ber, most of us know that TG has some quite good demos (WD by ODD is still a lot more in your face than fr-025) but an unfitting date for the most of the party visitors in the scene. You don't need to fight for your party.
On a side note: I still like Winnerdemo a lot. :)

lug: you can spare me the bruised nationalist ego mate, i seen the prods, i call them as i see them, my definition of decent in here is more then worthy of a thumb up. the quality has been going up, i give you that, but it's still quite an unreliable party quality-prod-wise imho
lug00ber: yeah i bet anyone outside #scene.no are already waiting for TG08 releases!
LOL
LOL
i am.
"france : numerica" won't happen in 2008.
irokos: thats a shame. back to hybernation goes the french scene. :/
ps, surely TG should be there in the list with KG and solskogen though, release quality wise.
