ISO PREVAILS!

If fairlight wants to dissolve, that's their business. It's better than forcing the group to stay alive.

But Fairlight can't die. Not just because we don't want it, but such really old labels can not be wiped out of existence. Someone will pick it up again, and carry on. It will not disappear till the founders announce the end.

you got confirmation in the thread by turtle, who is the oldest scener i know (got in the scene since 1978), that FLT is dead. what more do you need to beleive it?

Since 1978? Was there a scene at 78? Which home micros were existing at that time???

Here, it says he started beeing interested for the scene at 1980. Still, very early..

Since there is no option on the signup form to say you've been around earlier than 1980, i had no option to do otherwise ...

Well, it's possible that someone had been a scener in 1978 - assuming he was the first customer of the Apple-II. :)

I dunno how long you been computing, but when i got my first in 1978 there was a lot of computers around, and had been for some years. And on the question if there was a scene back then, i have to ask another question "when did the scene start ?".

Most ppl thinks that the scene started with C64, but that was just a new version of other great machines back then like VIC20 that again was a new version of PET2001. There will always be questions about when the scene started like we now have the so called "new scene" ...

So i guess i'am just what could be called a leftover from the "granddaddy scene" and i'am damn proud that i have had been around since those days ... so to all you kidz in here i can only say, you missed the beginning and all the phun of the true pioneer times.

i can't second the part with the 'new scene'. it's just a continuation what eventually started on the stone-age computers. people changed, that's it.

and .. i'm around since 1978 aswell, but only physically. =)

I think the answer from Bachhus is very clear and level-headed. Face it, if it's not the founders intent to kill the group entirely, and people are still keeping the dream alive, then the group is not dead.

It won't die until every last member gives up hope, and even then the memories of FairLight will live forever.

Abandoning hope -or at least a pet project- can be a good thing in this case. Far too many people have been assraping the 'till-then legendary names for far too long.

Pick up any wanna-be-ooh-so-goth vampire novel about some jaded vampire craving death -that's what you suggest FLT to be. Stop pumping dry wells.

The well isn't dry; FLT ISO didn't "die", it was shut down because the risk was deemed too big and that (as Bacchus's announcement says) doesn't affect the demo sections in any way.

i only see arse raping (subtle term... =-) when people who had nothing to do with the original name try to "bring back" a dead crew, FLT's main management are some of the people who have been there since the 1980s.

Well TMR. It was just shut down.. So what's the difference between shutting down a section and a section dying? It's so amusing to see ppl like you running around and talking about systems they haven't got a clue about. Go further and amuse us all!

tmr, who has nothing to do with fairlight ? the only one i can think of is you.
and you really don't know anything about Fairlights structure either, i can tell as much as the old people is still here.

stylus: shut down means a conscious decision was made, dying is when apathy kicks in and everyone wanders off. Seen both too many times to count over the last 15 years and been in a few crews when one or the other has happened (and when one or two have been "reborn") so i'm writing from experience.

Just because i'm not directly involved with the PC doesn't mean i'm a scene virgin and, despite what people think, only the faces change.

TMR: I didn't asked you for your personal meaning of "shutting down". I think I can look up a dictionary for this.

You are writing from your experience? Well. Give me a break.. You are telling me that the faces change and you are talking about experience. If you would be so experienced you would know that 95,9% of the big PC groups are lead infact by OLD faces..

If you don't mind that I say it to such a scene veteran: Read the post by Pantaloon/FAIRLIGHT who will acknowledge this at any point.

stylus: You wanted a difference between "shut down" and "died" so i explained it, if you didn't want that why ask in the first place? Seems rather silly...?

And, if you read the context of my message more closely, i don't think i said that the management of the crews changed, just that the scene itself does. 95-6% of the management may be old hands (and without defining old that's hard to ascertain) but the bulk of the crews change as new people arrive or old hands get a "life" or one of those family thingies.

And i don't mind you saying stuff to me, although i'd rather you didn't use the term "scene veteran", i'm just someone who has been making a nuisance of himself for a long time...
added on the 2003-07-13 20:00:37 by TMR{C0S} TMR{C0S}
TMR: I wouldn't say it's silly. Because it was no direct question, rather a point to make clear that there isn't too much difference between both terms.

You are talking about the management. This is wrong in my eyes. There are still many oldskoolers producing.. You should know it best, as far as I know Cosine is the group a man called 4MAT is member of.

Using scene verteran was pure sarcasm. I hope you excuse that. I don't want to turn down your nuisance, thats a point I accept&respect.
added on the 2003-07-13 22:46:36 by stylus stylus
[Shrug] Rhetorical questions only work if there is only one obvious answer, since there is a difference (no matter how slight you feel it to be) it falls on it's arse.

Cosine aren't archetypical of the scene today, i doubt we ever were so pointing to anything we do as an example in this light makes very little sense. Now if you could list a significant percentage of the current scene who have roots as far back as 4-Mat's go, you might have a point, otherwise my comment about how the faces change stands.

And of course i spotted the sarcasm, you don't seriously believe i really care if i'm called anything like that do you...? =-)
