Quebec Sceners and Partys

category: general [glöplog]
Hey all, is there any quebec scene groups, and a party somewhere? If there is, it is well hidden : P
not sure if coma was in quebec but thats as close as you'll get it unless you organize one yourself im afraid.

Go back to school. This would have the positive side-effect that you couldn't hang around on this website all day long.

Coma was in Quebec. Unfortunately, it looks like it won't happen again. However: Quebec is possibly the area of North America which has traditionally had a lot of demoscene representation.

Naid was also in Quebec. It definately won't happen again ):

I'd suggest popping over to scenespot.org and seeing if you can get ahold of some of the folks who are still active - Sylphyn/Suboptical for example. Or Impress. The folks in Northern Dragons are a bit far away I think - they're in Manitoba I think.

There _will_ be a party this year in North America - August 9th. It's a ways away from Quebec in Salt Lake. However I know some folks from that area are planning to go. Again, scenespot has details (as well as Ojuice.)

This will be the 2nd party that happens in Salt Lake - so they're serious about it. Which makes me happy (:

But back to the question - yes, there is a local scene there in Quebec, it seems a tad run down tho. But with a history of one, and active sceners, you shoudln't have as much difficulty in getting a local scene going again. I'd really suggest doing something like what they do in Koln/Cologne - that would do it I think.

Optimus: For gods sake get a MAP. You have to understand when you look dumber than AMERICANS you're REALLY doing yourself disservice.
optimus sets standards lower every day..... :D

when are they going to ban pc's again in greece... then pouet will be so much quiter again... :D

perhaps sars killed the quebec demoscene ;)

No, SARS is killing Ontario, not Quebec. Nobody'll miss Toronto.
hey, thanx GarbageTruck for your very pertinent comment, there was at least one : P
Though I don't really plan on going to Salt Lake, I'll try to get in touch with Quebec sceners. I don't really think I'll be able to do that much cause I'm more or less new, and am not very known, but anyway. When you say, there was a scene in Quebec, how was it like, and how many years ago? I think "scening" is a lot cituated in Europe. We don't really hear about anything here in Canada.

P.S. Optimus... It's not even a country, lol, it's a province. : )
IMHO Naid was not in Quebec but in Montreal.

... however I have the terrible suspicion that Montreal is in Quebec? :)

Montreal is in the Province of Quebec, but not the City of Quebec.
Pilgrimage is the only party going on in North America at this point. We're starting small (one day) so we don't get in over our heads, but I think you will find that the one day we have planned is going to so cram-packed with stuff that it might feel like more than one day! :).

Oh, did I mention that 1st place in the compos is a Radeon 9800 Pro fresh in the retail box? :)

Did I mention that we will have schwag we'll be giving away periodically during the whole day?

Did I mention that we'll have copies of Visual Studio.NET 2003 Academic Edition for new coders?

Did I mention that we will have a morning session packed full of speakers to teach you about making demos?

Hmm... maybe I've said too much :).

Make the Pilgrimage!

Ekra: Fun way to learn about the once-Quebec scene and beyond: http://www.dc5.org/~phoenix/naid. Lotsa stuff, mostly '95-96. Hell, I'll even send you one for the cost of shipping+envelope only.

I had the slight idea for once that it would be a state of america, but then the name sounded so weird that I was even thinking it would be somewhere in Asia :)

I am going fine in geography (afteralls, my involvement in the demoscene, made me better ;) but that doesn't mean I have to know everything, ugh. Stupid people, who said that someone is stupid because he doesn't know where a place on the earth is. I would understand that and wouldn't blame the person!

Blabla..

Quebec statistics for U sceeners:

- 7,5 million people
- 7 times the size of France
- 50% of people speak french, and the other speak english
- Quebec is part of the Common Wealth, since Canada is also part of Common Wealth
- Quebec gets it's electricity from Hydro Electric instead of Nuclear Powerplants
- The largest city in Quebec is Montreal, which holds 2 million habitants and an extra 1,5 million if you count the suburbs, in a space that's around the size of Paris. Montreal celebrated it's 350 year birthday not so long ago, maybe 8 years ago.
- There is a city in Quebec province which is called Quebec also and holds 1 million habitants, it has been created around year 1600, so over 400 years old and was fortified until the 1900's.
- The scene in Quebec is dead, a part from the music scene
- All previous sceners in Quebec are now working for UBI SOFT or another one of those immigrated European game companies.
- Quebec sceners are not as dedicated as European sceners, or as serious in contributing to the scene.

Hey! I'm an American and I know where Quebec, the rest of Canada, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Argentina, Morocco, France, Germany, Austria, Australia, Andorram, Spain, England, Scotland, Finland and Russia and .... (rants for a while)... South Africa and India are.
Then again, if I was a normal American, what the heck would I be doing here?
