How The Shadow routine of this fantastic demo are made?

I've got a hunch:
They -somehow- must be .. coded in some sort of programming language.

considering the jittering on the edges, i'd put my bet on shadowmaps.

dont stop appears to use shadowmaps. debris uses shadowvolumes. google for it.
realtime hard shadows like those arent actually very hard these days on a pc. you dont have to precalc or fake them (or indeed, "pork" them) anymore. soft shadows and so on require a bit more effort.

and if you like shadows there is an immense amount of paperwork.. you can do shadows much smarter than in this particular demo. most of these techniques are mainly used for scientific reasons and not got implemented in demos, yet.
Securom VM is a good point to start! but i dont know how you get it crunched that well. ;)

Debris is slow if you run it with shadows on.
Even kb and chaos said that their Debris "demo" lacks of shadow routine.
Its slow.
Navis? Rgba? Uncle-X? Shadows routine that you can sell it to EA.
