I remember seeing a screenshot of "Broken Promises" in a diskmag sometime. Where did that come from? It looked damn cool!

Well, I might as well shovel this shit up again:

While Acme's Polytracker was never released, a couple of people managed to get their hands on it.

What apparently happened was that Lone Ranger left his machine unattended at a party (SIH95, I believe) and some people copied some files on a floppy. This included a rather rusty beta, the latest version and some code.

I got hold of it through a sysop in our team in january 1996, for curiosity's sake. It really was polytracker, and for a Screamtracker clone, it was rather neat.

However, the people from Acme (and Nostalgia) got wind of this, suddenly our team was held responsible for lifting the material, and ...well, to put it mildly, people started screaming for our heads :)

I honestly don't know who originally stole the stuff, but it was quite interesting stuff to play with. (And if any modplayer people are listening: there are more effects than lone ranger published -wink wink, nudge nudge) :)

'Broken Promises' was finally not made by Sanity, but a Finnish group named Zenon.

About stealing sources, well... there are some stories behind 'Spot - Desktop Adventures', the famous demo by Exceed. The story involves two great coders, A'rpi and Strepto of Astral, Exceed's great opponent, and an Exceed member, who used to be in Astral some time before. Just for the record, Picard, and all the well known creative members of Exceed are innocent... but... ok, see the book. ;)

i heard this rumour that I was a coder...

never been proven though :)

I have photographs of stefan performing oral sex for a plasma routine source though.

shocked me - i didn't even know horses could code!
Well Tomcat, if _SOMETIMES_ you would ask some _RESPONSIBLE_ people, you wouldn't say shit (as always.)

1. We (Exceed) met (!) Dr. Skull in Delft where we were on a workmeet with Dreams Interactive, in the Netherlands. He is working there with them on a web based 3d world. We also talked about the old rumors, but you are not the right man we can trust and tell.

2. About the SPOT thingie: Robson (you are talking about him) _NEVER_ used Arpi's metaball sources. (Another question, that he could learn from his sources - they were in the same group, and worked together...ha) And before you publish false informations in your f*ckin book ... THINK TWICE.

Btw. you _NEVER_ asked for _ANY_ information about Exceed?! Or your book is just about YOUR WORLD OF SCENE? Then it will be just a big rumors/flase info collection, - ergo CRAP.

Go back, and do Flag's for the posse, at least the last 2 years were enjoyable, and had well organising.

Now shit on me.

Hehe. Yes, D-Lee, you of course know everybody, and you're the _ONLY RESPONSIBLE_ person for _ANY_ scene matter...

Has anyone said anything about metaballs here? :)

And no, I've not asked for information about Exceed. Simply because I haven't written anything about it yet. Maybe I should apologize you for not discussing *YOUR* group before all others? But anyway, I'd not ask anything from you anyway, and neither Robson. There are this and that everybody knows about you. When it comes to Exceed matters, I'll turn to Picard, Warpig or (TR), the actual founder of Exceed...

About who being the right man to trust... Do you remember when you pathetically tried to prove that Astral has stolen their sources? While, as I recall, it was *you* who tried to seize some sources from Strepto's computer? Hmm, hmm. Maybe you should just shut the fuck up. Not mentioning that you once also tried to spread fake bullshit about my book and its contents what you said you've read in a "preview" - a preview that never existed. Also let's not recall that you've stolen the 'Fleur' diskmag from DFJ, without his permission.

i wonder what motivates tomcat for writing this book. it seems that everytime he 'releases' tiny bits of the book to the public everyone strats bitching or whining :-)

[oh yeh, i still don't see who would actually buy a book like this.. i mean, my appetite for reading scene-history is easily covered by reading party-reports or diskmags from the era that's currently annoying by..]
i would.

[shifter] ehehehe.... I too worked at DAVILEX for whole two days (ok, within a bigger project for them, to team up with their game design staff and such) ... we did a ps1 port of one of their games and it was funny that every few hours their chief team designer went "whoa, you can do that? our ps2 team said this was impossible", and then called them. Their ps2 guys did NOT really like us after that ;)

team designer == game designer
tho davilex would've needed a team designer before they threw out 90% of their staff..

Rasmus:
During the seven years I've been running this project, you're the second saying you're not interested. The other one later revised his opinion and became eager to see the book. See you at the bookstand. :)

The motivation is quite trivial I think...

please! no more about DAVILEX! i worked for the gba company that had to do a gba port of the game KB and his posse had to do a ps1 port for (getting this? yes? :))

Oh my.. they sent a 'game designer' over to help us finish the game and he didn't no JACK!! it was HORRIBLE!! (but fun yes, they guy asking inopia 'can you change the settings for skidding' inopia said 'sure', changed nothing and they guy responded with 'yes! this is so much better :))

maybe i shouldn't have posted this :D

The reason to buy the book? Yeah, I want to read scene history, especially from the Amiga or C64 days that I know nothing, and it's better than searching and reading random old magazines/reports/etc. because now you have the most important stuff in one book. I am still wondering, why anyone wouldn't like to buy the book? It's very interesting imho, and there are a lot of guys who didn't started in the scene from the very early, also it is a nice reference even for old nostalgic sceners who might have. Nobody has written such an interesting book before about the demoscene..

-Dubmood-

Not really violent, but at one of the ASM's (I forget which one) some kid brought an ornamental war axe.
It was quickly confiscated by security.

Why on earth would you need an axe at asm?
lol

I think that line was even said by one of the organizers.
