headphones for men:

I have Sennheiser HD 500, which nowadays are mostly unused on my desk at work (never used them that much at home anyway). And Koss sparkplugs for traveling (should get new ones though, those are uncomfortable and has a bad sound).

I had these. K141 600-ohms. Cost me a fortune. I gave them away. \o/

I have Sennheiser HD 500 as well and gonna throw them through my window and get some AKG :)

AKG are top stuff, really, I'm serious, no kidding this time.
First time I tried my AKG "K240 Studio" I felt kinda disapointed because no bass, a linear response all over the range and thin sound. Bummer.
After some hours, they've been revealed as real monitoring headphones with high precision and depth. Also, they are very comfortable and light and excellent to listen to CDs. The kind of equipment that has no mercy for MP3s (artefacts become more obvious with an average encoding quality) and "louder-is-better" CDs!

indestructible, won't ever clip, lush bass but ofc pretty non-linear.
still a very good closed can if you know its character - even for studio purposes:



Beyerdynamic DT-880 "Edition 2003"
more linear frequency response (compared to the pioneers), highly transparent, splendid clarity and depth, very good for classical music and kinda weak for the "untz-purpose" i am longing for, most of the time.

Oh year, with AKG, Beyerdynamic is also top stuff 8) DT990 and DT880 are killers.
They are more suitable for microphone takes (especially with static mics) since the Beyer have a closed design that avoids any sound radiation even at higher volume.
This is my only complain with the AKG. I can slightly hear the sequencer click or instrumentals in many of my accapella or guitar takes =) Therefore I always have to control the volume in my headphones during recording to avoid this and/or put a noise gate to clean the takes when they should be silent !

oh, and I forgot to say that the drawback of closed headphones like those DT880 above is that they tend to make you sing off the key (if you're a singer) because of a very different sound perception. That's why the AKG K240 is still often used for singers in a lot of commercial studios despite the noise feedback :)
I sing off the key anyway, so I can switch to anything else ! haha !

kaneel, i'd seriously hand you out my dt880's if you're interested to invest a reasonable amount (~70% of current streetprice) (!).
and that's not because they sucks, it's merely since my pioneer's are way better for the UNTZ! :D
and you know better than me that you don't need that, right!? :)

Beyerdynamic DT990-PRO and Grado SR-325i. Unfortunately the Grados develops a rattle in a matter of days, no matter how nicely you treat them. Ye old "grattle".

irvin: How many grados has this happened to with you? Your making me worry. :/

They have a superb and clean sound, however your ears will be a bit sore after some hours ;) ~170-200€
