There's only one way to solve this. Naked oil wrestling.

This thread ranks right up there in importance with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears news items.
I think that was a request for total pouetization?

Andromeda is Andromeda and ASD is ASD. That's all :)

Some answers to settle this once and for all.

First, I can see why such a post is being made no matter how ridiculous it might be.

Second, ASD was founded under that particular name around 1992 to 1993, an era during which Internet in Greece was as common as an iPod on King Arthur's round table. ASD was not aware of the existance of Andromeda when they chose a name for themselves and the word "Andromeda" seemed fitting since it derives from greek mythology yada yada yada.. The fact that ASD became known outside Greece after 2000, does not negate the fact that it's a 15 year old group.

Third and most important. ASD and AoA are scene friends and they respect and admire each other's works. Clarifications about the names have been given, exchanged etc and everyone's cool with it.

Finally, Soolta.. be careful of what you wish for...

proteque, you could go with water. I mean if Heineken is so close to water, but still labeled as beer, this could hold true in your case.

No offense to the dutch beer crew.. My 2 fave beers are still dutch (La Trappe Quadrupel and Hertog Jan)

aMUSiC: as much as I find this topic stupid and pointless, the internet/Greece thing is irrelevant though.

Nobody had internet at home in Europe in 1992, yet Andromeda was one of the most famous demoscene group, known in all countries :)

To be honest, I hated your group when I discovered it, I was like "Wtf?! How about Sanity Software Development or Kefrens Software Development? How could they?". Then thanks to the quality of your prods, I managed to forget about it somehow.

I have always been a huge Andromeda fan, hence my former rude opinion about your group name :)

..just to add that in 92 I was 14, pretty naive and probably not much aware of the existance of demoscene.

However, I knew of 'some guys' in BBSes that did those nice motion graphics, and that most of the them were from Scandinavia and they did these 'parties' like Assembly. I would download some PC only demos, but never actually engage into a forum conversation (over Fidonet or Pascalnet or whatnot) on demoscene history. As I never owned an amiga, I actually never stambled across the legendary Andromeda group.

Keops, back in those days I was aware of Andromeda cause I was really passionate about amiga demos (and an amiga user as well). Knowing andromeda was only possible from game pirates who were importing the weekly wares, and among those they slipped some demos. I was too very curious about ASD's name choice back then (I joined ASD in 2001).

Long Distance BBSing was of course something exotic for a 14 year old so the whole demoscene sport developed in greece much later (in 1995, where the first greek party was ever held).

So the whole naming issue was totally coincidental (hell, there's a new company in US called 'Andromeda Software Development' that deals with medical software.. should we be pissed about it?)

But anyhow, since none of the two groups in question has a problem with the names, why should anyone else have one?

I would suggest these alternative names for ASD:

- The broken heads (TBH)
- Luppoformizatices
- Confect
- Fragile Bottoms (FB)
- Lightrush

Unique groupnames so u won`t get into this groupname ripping mess again.
