Funny coincidense, I received the following last week from a friend. The original was in Greek:

"The German language"

The German language is easy. Someone who knows the Greek language, accustomed to conjugations can learn it without much trouble. Besides, this fact is mentioned by German language instructors at the beginning of every study period. Then they begin with the learing of the der, die, das, den, des, dem etc and again it is reminded that the rest is of a defusing logic.

In order for you to understand what was just said, let's give a practical example.

First, buy the German language handbook. It is an excellent book with a beautiful hard cover, printed in Dortmund, which describes the habbits of the Hottentottens.

In the book it is described how the kangaroos (Beutelratten) are caught and closed inside cages (Kotter), covered with rags (Lattengitter) to be protected from the rain. These cages are called "cages covered with rags" in German (Lattengitterkotter) and when they contain a kangaroo they are called Lattengitterkotterbeutelratten.

One day the Hottentottens arrested a murderer (Attentater), whom they accused with the murder of a mother (Mutter) Hottentotten (Hottentottenmutter), whom in turn had a son which was a little stupid stutterer (Stottertrottel). A woman like that is called Hottentottenstottertrottelmutter in German, and her murderer is a Hottentottenstottertrottelmutterattentater. The patrol arrests the murderer and closes him in a cage for kangaroos (Beutelrattenlattengitterkotter), but the prisoner manages to escape. Immediately everyone goes out chasing him and sometime, a Hottentotten warrior returns shouting:

- I have caught the murderer (Attentater)!
- Really? Who? Asks the chief.
- The Lattengitterkotterbeutelratterattentater, replies the warrior.
- You mean the murderer from the kangaroo cage, covered with rags? Asks the chief again.
- Why, (replies the warrior) the Hottentottenstottertrottelmutterattentater (The murderer of the mother Hottentotten of the stupid and stuttering child).
- Thats more like it! Says the chief. You could say it from the beginning that you caught the Hottentottenstottertrottelmutterlattengitterkotterbeutelrattenattentater!

P.S. I don't know how to speak German. Only a couple of words.

I got an F most of the time in German class. I think it had something to do with the fact that I was a young, defiant, and refusing to do/learn/speak German alotgether.

I don't like the german tendency to dub movies either.

In other words, it's safe to assume I have no sympathy for people who post messages in german on a site that is obviously not exactly focused on GERMAN.

What's wrong with you people?! We have stefan and minimalanimal people as trolls already, no need to open a can of wurst as well.

Schreibt lieber in english so all can understand what you say.

moT: I never heard the word "Kotter" in Germany. Maybe the reason is, i'm a zony... ;)

chaos: But the most important musician -my opinion- of fr lives in Frankfurt.
"... what you say." Haha, I just see it. ;)

It is a known fact that most/all germans cannot write their own language properly. The orthography has been reformed a few years ago and now the confusion is even more obvious than before. Lately I witnessed several discussions about the correct writing of 'Alptraum' (Nightmare). 50% believed that it is written 'Albtraum' (with 'b') while the other 50% insisted it was 'Alptraum'. (actually both ways are correct ;))

shifter: dubbing movies is a French tendency too. In Greece dubbing was tried and failed miserably. It's the old "protect our native language" vs. "don't spoil the movie experience with lousy speakers" debate.

1. Onthoudbaar zijn;
2. Aanvaardbaar zijn (niet leiden tot irritaties);

Jaspers laat hiermee twee dingen overtuigend zien:

Is it true that Hollandish or Danish, or some other language, is very similar to Deutsch? (Which is that???) I think I have found something which I could almost read, or identify similar to Deutsch, but I don't remember in which language. Also the things that ile wrote above, but I don't know which language it is..
