Game development in germany.

Is it really that bad? Some germans need to tell me if it is, before i move to Berlin all of a sudden.
Unglaublich!
Doom: Come and fight the nazis with us ;)
Maali: what about the bavarian CDU and Cops/Law references?

fucking fascists!
The entertainment industry is arguably the biggest in the US. I assume the same would apply to most other first-world countries. If Germany wants to ban violent games, and whatever else they don't like, their economy will suffer tremendously.
no, germany sucks when i comes to games dev...so no damage there...not big that is.
Even if developers are from other countries, they may not be able to sell their games in countries like Germany. I don't agree with laws that prohibit the selling of games to minors, but I can tolerate them. I can't tolerate governments that ban certain games completely.
But unwarranted wiretapping, preemptive wars, torture of noncombatants, election fraud, corporate-sponsored politicians, and arbitrary censorship of broadcast TV and radio, that's completely different, because it's all supervised by a president who thinks he was appointed by God?
Meanwhile, I need to know about Germany. Cause I always thought of the whole nazi thing as being sort of done with down there, with the US currently topping the free-world fascism charts. But nazis suck. They're worse than Hitler. It's OK if there are nazis, though. I can kill them with my brain. I just have to be prepared.

My country needs a warrant for every wiretap, unless it's for a known terrorist. The war on terror is in response to fascists who have openly declared that they will kill every infadel in the world. The Iranian and North Korean leaders are attempting to develope nuclear weapons with the purpose of bombing the US, Israel, and everybody else they hate. We don't condone the torture of anybody. Any cases of torture commited by our troops is dealt with harshly. In every election, the loser will accuse the winner of election fraud. If evidence is found to substantiate those claims, then an investigation ensues. It is illegal for commercial entities to sponsor politicians, but some haven't been caught. I'm not sure what you mean about the arbitrary censorship of TV and radio. I think the rules about so-called adult content is often too strict, but they only apply to broadcast. We don't censor people's opinions. Germany actually bans fictional forms of entertainment, like violent video games and lolicon. Germany isn't run by nazis, but it's verging on fascism.
There are lots of assholes in every country of the world... And Germany is not exactly on the verge of fascism. At least not I have noticed, and I live there...
I admit my use of the word "fascism" is too liberal. I just think that Germany's bans on various forms of art and entertainment is pointless. Violent video games don't cause violence unless the player has a mental illness. Studies show a correlation between violent people and violent video games. Fascist-wannabes jump to the conclusion that those video games cause violence. That correlation could also mean that violent people are more likely to play violent video games. Those kids that shot up Columbine were inspired by the movie Natural Born Killers. People wanted to blame the movie, but that wasn't the problem. Those kids were already mentally ill. They would've still killed people even if they hadn't seen the movie, but they would've done it differently.

And what constitutes a known terrorist? http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/17/bush.nsa/ <-- and the message from Bush: investigative reporting = treason.

I was talking about the war in Iraq. Which has nothing to do with the war on terror. Say the people who gave the order.

So isn't the lesson from North Korea that the US only attacks countries that DON'T have the bomb (after all, the US were the pioneers in using atomics for genocide, I guess they would know to pick their battles). So Iraq: no bombs -> invasion. Iran: no bombs -> invasion coming up. North Korea: bombs -> diplomacy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guantanamo_Bay_detainment_camp <-- this is what you do for fun? What about Tranquility Bay for that matter? Did they close that down yet? Fun read here, if you have the stomach for it: http://education.guardian.co.uk/classroomviolence/story/0,,987932,00.html IIRC part two is the nasty bit.

I believe the technical term is "political fundraising". Germany at least has rules to prohibit well-financed interest groups from contributing too much money to election campaigns.

Hence "arbitrary". It's pointless censorship to ban certain words because they're considered distasteful, by some arbitrary standard. But it does reflect who gets a say in US politics and how little sense you have to make to get your point across. So, they got most of the ungodly words, and next up is evolution science. And you can be absolutely sure you won't be playing GTA for long if the religious right (who, in case you haven't been listening to your president, are running your country) have their way.

The point is simple though: the news is bullshit. Americans violently defend their country despite how it looks from the outside. Which is why if I want to know what Germany is like, I'll ask a German.
A known terrorist is someone who declares their intent to commit acts of terror, even if they haven't done so yet. Saddam Hussein had stated many times that he if he could, he would destroy the US and Israel. He claimed to have WMDs, but he didn't really have much other than a bunch of seran gas. Even if he didn't have the ability, he had the intent. Other terrorists are still present in Iraq, and they mean to do the same. The current Iranian and North Korean leaders have both declared the intent to destroy the US. Even if their claims about nuclear weapons are false, they still pose an iminent threat. What you call genocide was a desperate attempt to save ourselves from the Japanese empire that wanted to rule half the world. I wish we could have done something different, but we didn't have time to formulate a better plan. I never said that torture doesn't happen, but we don't allow it. We don't allow murder either, but it happens everyday. There is nothing wrong with political fundraising, which isn't the same as corporate sponsorship. I won't disagree with you about censoring broadcast TV for "adult material", but it's limited to broadcast. That includes AM and FM radio, and about seven basic TV channels. Those laws have no effect on satellite radio, cable and satellite TV, or the internet. We DO violently defend our country. That's called war. We are at war with terrorists, which are not limited to one country. They are in Afganistan, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, and many other countries in the mid-east. We are not at war WITH Iraq, but IN Iraq. I have said all this, but I won't argue that their are maniacs in my own country. Just because someone is religious, like the president or myself, doesn't mean that they're extremists. I consider anybody who wants to ban violent video games to be against the very concept of freedom. Is Germany a freedom-hating country? Maybe that isn't fascism, but it's still wrong.
Okay. This isn't the topic. It's about game developement in Germany. I don't hate Germany, but I don't like the view its government has on fantasy entertaiment. The same applies for other countries like Canada. That doesn't mean that I hate those countries, and I certainly don't hate the people. If I did, I wouldn't care what they did. But I think that maniacs are using those countries' governemts to deprive their citizens of basic rights. The sad thing is that those politicians who vote to ban certain harmless content often get off on controlling other people's art and entertainment. They only end up creating problems, while never decreasing violence and other crimes. It costs money to enforce those senseless laws and morally-innocent people are criminalized. Again, I want to apologize for my rant about the war on terror. That isn't what the topic is about. :-)
there is no just thing called fantasy entertanment, there is only retardness. we are not in blade runner.
An extra special informative link for Steohawk.
Huh? That doesn't even make any sense. Fantasy entertainment is something that isn't real. Like a video game, fake porn, non-photographic art, demoscenes, etc. I'm sure there is a better word, but it's not in my vocabulary. :-) I don't understand what that has to do with retardation. I never saw Blade Runner, so I don't get that reference.
steohawk i appreciate your effort in adding "video game" and "demoscenes" to your list which i can say you have no fucking clue about by observation. however what you mean by "fake porn" and "non-photographic art" in the context of "fantasy entartainment" is a replace of their real counterparts which are illegal. video games and such have nothing to do with "fantasy entertainment". noone's into "entertaining" your "fantasy".
let me put it this way killing cats because killing humans is illegal is a perfect example of retardness. no matter how you build a fetish of killing cats and begin prefering it to killing human in time.

anes, I think you missed something entirely. I apologize for the confusion, but what you're saying has nothing to do with anything we are talking about. I think the problem is in the use of the term "fantasy entertainment." I only used that term because I couldn't think of a better word. I am referring to things that have no basis in reality, like video games. You say that fake porn and non-photographic art are replacing their illegal counterparts. I'm not sure what your talking about. In most countries, porn and photography are perfectly legal, except under certain circumstances. You jumped in the middle of a thread to make a point that has nothing to do with what we are talking about. This thread started out about a police raid on Crytek, and evolved into bashing anti-video game people. I think you're just misunderstanding something I said.
no you perfectly understood what i was referring to with "fake porn" and "non-photographic art" in the context of "fantasy entartainment" you are talking about.
i haven't jumped anywhere. it's your linkage between the activity of banning violence in games and banning this "fantasy entertainment" you're talking about.
btw i'm not even commenting on your claims such as "an artist should stay away from germany" or "the government want to strip their imagination". "art" oh yeah, "imagination"... :|

Banning books! I think I remember an old movie about that... Before you know it, Germany will ban lolicon. I live in the US, where it's considered evil to control fantasy entertainment. If you're in the arts or entertainment, you need to stay far away from places like Germany and Canada. They want to strip their citizens of emotion and imagination. They're turning them into Vulcans! :-O

So, they're policing game violence with REAL violence. That's so ironic I could cry.
anes has lost his mind. No.... He's a Vulcan! I really don't know how to respond to anything you said. It makes absolutely no sense. Do you not think that video games are a form of fantasy? Do you not think that they are a form of entertainment? Look up the definiton of the words "fantasy" and "entertainment". If you're not aware, Germany is trying to ban violent video games. That's why I say they are stripping their citizens of imagination. That's also why it's prudent for artists to leave, if they want to keep their jobs and their freedom.
cute... oversea retards from countries where boobs are banned are talking about a theme while the only source of information they have is slashdot,FoxNews and some retarded forums...
"demoscenes"- WTF?! there is another one?
Freunde,
könnte ihr nicht EINMAL über Deutschland reden ohne gleich auf den ganzen Nazi und Hitler-Scheiß abzuschweifen? Föllich lächerlich, das nervt mich langsam.

Afaik most violent games aren't crafted to stimulate any sort of imagination in the first place but more to make player's level of adrenaline to rise.
While it may be a little bit extravagant to assimilate games makers as child molesters, most of them are now nothing but agents of an industry which is just trying to lobotomize it's own customers and is hardly promoting the freedom of creation you're talking about.
Also notice that children do to see or react to fictional violence like adults do, it's much more real for them.
