I would just like a Windows version recompiled with a higher bitrate mp3.. that 128kbit/sec one is pretty bad :)

also, superplek, i agree.. :) a VC6 workspace would be cool mainly because I am a total newb and just want to do what i said up above..

Leppie: You don't need to recompile to switch the MP3, just replace the .mp3 file and you should be set. You'd have to get the original track from CD and edit it like they did, though. :-) (Yes, I'd also like a higher-bitrate version, or even a 128kbit Ogg Vorbis file. :-) )

Ahh, then there is a utility to decompress a .zob file? The mp3 is embedded inside somewhere..

Nevermind my previous comment..

OK so I figured based on these comments, I could remove the zob file and move the /datas directory where the executable resides and run the demo, but I can't. So, I would still like a way to unpack/repack a .ZOB file.. anything Win32 is fine.

shadez: "I'm not sure does the demoscene and opensource fit together... creativity may suffer"

On the contrary I think knowledge-sharing is one of the best way to evolve, as long as you don't only copy stuff people bring you but try to use it in order to make your own stuff being inspired by other one's work. IMO that's true for a lot of things such as code, demos, music, design, philosophy and... well life in general.

Btw I'd like to thank Sesse and great him for his Linux port of VIP2, hope to see it as soon as I get a computer !!

YaY, we are all waiting for it ! I hope there is no x86 asm code in it, I wanna see the VIP2 on my iBook =]

analogue: There is, but it can easily be replaced by equivalent C code (which might be a little slower, but this ran well on machines two years ago so it shouldn't be a big problem), so it should be compilable (although not without some endian fixes) on non-x86 stuff as well.

It's a bit frustrating trying to get the sync to work, though -- either Skysound on Linux is drifting a lot, or I've been doing something wrong in my timer code...

I figured out the problem, if the mp3 file is replaced with a higher bitrate version, the demo won't run. If someone finds a solution without having to recompile the source, let me know.

solution : change the bitrate version :))
added on the 2003-01-14 17:36:44 by skarab skarab
erm... that wouldn't make the quality much higher.. or do you mean there's a byte somewhere in the exe to make it load something other than 128?
added on the 2003-01-14 18:47:54 by Lepper Lepper
maybe the soundplayer is too old to read higher bitrate... i don't know, have you tried with badest quality ?
added on the 2003-01-14 18:52:31 by skarab skarab
maybe the bitrate is set in the sources...

Actually, the MP3 isn't an MP3, it's a .wav file with an MP3 embedded. Perhaps that might be your problem? There is nothing in Skysound (nor in the VIP2-sources) that should make it not work with higher bitrates, AFAIK... (As for the sync on Linux, I'm throwing out Skysound and going for mpglib instead -- enough is enough ;-) )

Blarg... one last "#("#$) bug left to squash (and I don't understand a bit of it :-) )...

Hi guys,

just a little note to remember you that, back in early 2000, there wasn't a lot of mp3-ized demo, and 128kbps was quite good back then...

Of course, things changed since then :)
And Popsy too. Wait for our next prods dudes :)

Eheh, I said "our" next prod :p That's not because I stopped demoscene some times ago that I left all my friends from demoscene :p
