Wii as a demo platform

As far as I remember, Nintendo people once mentioned the possibility of releasing a light SDK for people willing to develop homemade stuff.
I have the feeling that the Wii could quickly become a popular demo platform.

At a press event, Nintendo of Japan president Satoru Iwata also revealed the pricing structure for downloadable games via the WiiConnect24 service.
NES games will sell for 500 Yen (3 euro / GBP 2), SNES titles will cost 800 Yen (5 euro / GBP 4) and N64 games will retail for 1000 Yen (7 euro / GBP 5).

ET TON CUL§1
It looks like a shit game platform, let alone a demo platform.
I really don't get all the hype. It looks no better than an N64 with a new controller.
PS3 on the other hand is one mindblowing piece of kit. Shame about the rumoured release price being so ridiculously high though!

Hey man, what if you could controll your copper plasma with that remote-stick-thingy?
Shanethewolf: since when the best demo platform is the one with the most CPU/GPU power?
C64, CPC, Zx, Atari ST and Amiga are still kickass demo platforms, yet their raw power is ridiculous compared to our state-of-the-art PC's.
About the PS3: what do you possibly know? Are you a PS3 developper? Because so far, very few people can give a reliable opinion about its actual power. Don't get too excited, PS3 is far from being as powerful as Sony managed to make you think.
Last thing: a cool demo platform is above all a demo platform on which development is PLEASANT, which possibly places PS3 as the worst platform at the moment.
Even the Wii with its 90's dev tools is much more pleasant to develop on.

shane: stop listening to sonys marketing
keops: stop hiding your incompetence behind claims of "horrible devtools"

hehe.. everyone is trying to develop a "lightweight" sdk for their consoles..
ps3 is powerful and i can see over the years it will become as great as they expected it to be.. as for ease of development its not so great, but since when has sony cared for the developers? :)
both the ps3 and wii have their own place for different reasons. You take your pick really.
Wii a good demo platform? How exactly are you going to enter code using that motion sensing controller? Come on Keops, use your brain a bit before you post on here. Stop wasting everyone's time.
Thanks,
Peter
Thanks,
Peter
pete: you could write the letters in the air with it stupid! Not like on xbox, where you have to enter text with those giant red and green buttons! PS3 will be the best platform, cause it has smaller buttons.
pete: everybody does it the way psonice described it of course!
Wii looks to me like a cool platform for VJing :)
PS3's rsx supposedly, is fun to play with, (and by play I mean code) as mentioned by a certain famous ex-scener in the tent of a certain big german party.

Is PS3's RSX actually more fun than 360's Xenos? I was under impression that RSX is more or less a regular geforce7, while xenos actually has some really interesting stuff.
and now for completeing the console flame WarzZzzZz :
new racegame on Wii: (GT PRO)
old racegame on xbox 360: (pgr3)
spot the differences...
but heh !!! Wii has
for GT PRO....
im getting more and more disappointed with the Wii every day.

NeARAZ, actually what was mentionned to me was how fun it was to get the straight-to-hardware interface instead of the "productive" apis such as directx or opengl.
alien, funny it almost looks like a remake of the ds versus psp discussion. and quite frankly, you CRETIN, what does a racing game have to do with demomaking.
just heating the fire :)
the interesting things about the wii are the controller and the games, neither of which really make it any better as a demo platform
but who knows...
but who knows...
I believe what keops pointed out, was that the wii would come with a channel for downloadable content.
What I'm seeing there is that this virtual console might be some sort of 2d-based system (since at this point they never announced any 3d emulated game)
So it would be a good platform for cracktros ;)

nitendo has a rather nice state of mind with homebrew stuff, that's nice, but i don't really see how a wii can compete with a xbox360, that is already avialable, opened to homebrew dev with a nice 21th century style sdk (hi keops), and much more powerfull. :-)
wait and see.
wait and see.

we're talking about the company that didn't want to allow the distribution of homebrew gameboy programs because "they have the gameboy logo in the rom" or some other bullshit excuse... ;)
Nystep: Indeed, that's what I was refering to (implicitly), Xbox360 SDK is so pleasant to use compared to Nintendo's or Sony's, it's amazing, there seems to be 10 years of difference between them.
Speaking of power, Wii can't compete with a 360 indeed, not even remotely. Nintendo have always claimed that raw power was not their concern for the Wii. It's more or less an Xbox1 (or a slightly upgraded Gamecube), which makes it quite outdated already ;)
By the way, I once opened a thread about demos and 360 some weeks ago. 360 is quite an interesting demo platform as well (interesting 3D hardware and great SDK)

The platform is only as good as the artist makes it. Period.

Save your shittalk and get a Wii for the price of 1/5 Xbox360 and PS3 and go like "WOO YAY!! AGAIN NOTHING ELSE THAN NEW GRAPHICS!! NOW THAT'S HOW I IMAGINED THE FUTURE OF CONSOLE GAMES BACK WHEN I HAD MY SNES / MEGA DRIVE!"
...of course I meant the Xbox360 / PS3 with that last sentence.
