im thinking doing a table with some 7398264392 NUPs and keeping a counter on the new one, ++ when new account is created. you would have to go ask a gloperator on #pouet.net irc whats the current NUP to register new account on pouet. would be accessible through small .php only to glop/mod/admin.

would increase dificulty to register new accounts, cutting the spam down significantly and relegate users to have atleast 1 gloperator who minimally tolerates them.

still wondering if the NUP access should be for bbs only or also prod comments + oneliner.

personally i think NUP for bbs only would suffice (would help newbies/strangers to be more participative since they would have free access to oneliner and prod comments)
but im already forseeing retarded abuse on those areas from ppl who cant get the NUP for the bbs, so i might aswell implement it everywhere since im at it... -_-

i know some people would perhaps feel uncomfortable having to go to irc and bother other ppl to get access. the question is, does it go against freedom of speech and scene spirit? i think it doesnt.

I'm not afraid it would harm free speech but that it could keep people who are new to the scene away from pouet.
while the worst bbs spammers we all know already own an account.

it would be easy to change normal user accounts back to user without nop verification status.

So what would this mean? Would we need to get a NUP in order to post on the boards?
Or just to register, as a one-time deal?

crusader: one time deal. obviously all active users right now would get instant access.. its more to prevent new multiple accounts abuse by someone who would get muzzled for beeing annoying kinda thing..

I cant believe it - next thing you introduce is biometric identification for BBS posting. What is the point? Currently all these discussions about censorship and restricting access do rather have an adverse effect than helping to solve the "situation". They pollute the BBS and are an incentive to post even more crap as long as it is possible.

Most problems would resolve by doing nothing - after a while every troll gets fed up without response. This has been said many times, but somehow this concept is not that easy to grasp for some people.

To get rid of the spam: I would suggest to add an option so the admins can bump individual threads from the frontpage into the archive. That way almost nobody would look at these postings and nobody would have to complain about censorship.

I don't like the idea. I am quite a rare poster on pouet, but if I had to go find someone who registers me, I'd most probably stop posting at all. I don't know how many people are like me, but it would be quite sad if prods get less coments...

Oh yes, continueing the idea of the topic: Just make pouet a pay site! You will be suprised how quickly all spamming and trolling ceases.

My English is the worst I know, so I post only comments to prods that really impress me. I'm sure, if I'm forced to register myself this way, I would not continue visiting the site.

the problem is not the trolls, but those who are unable to ignore them.

maybe the (currently quite flaky) SceneID registration validation system should be fixed - guess that would help easier..

close the bbs-forum, restrict prod-comments posting to one per user (except if an admin allows a second -> providing a good reason). <kidding>or make bbs-posts cost 5 cents/post, billed by credit card. hehe</kidding> but then again.. all that would be too harsh, i know.

Maybe also deny pr0nstars the ability to create new threads?

erm, email verification for sceneID is working and mandatory
unfortunatly anyone can create a temp email account somewhere...

i didn't add loads of prods to the database just for people who know how to use irc and suck up with gloperators. however "much" trolling there may be, the day it gets more complicated to sign up for a newbie, i'm gone from this site. pouet's openness is it's power imho!

although i understand where ps stands, with ep being the ultimate attentionwhore and optimus being back at full strength with his retardedness, as soon as you make it too hard to sign up, the whole idea of pouet is gone. part of the fun is flaming clueless newbies on the bbs (cause fucking bastards is what we are). let it be, ignore threads opened by certain people, etc. etc.

I'm pretty neutral since there are enough people who use pouet only as database and (nearly) never post a comment or leave some bbs message. And well, I remember how pouet was about two years ago, I used it a bit but it was slow, buggy, trollinfected,... For me it changed to the better and therefore I'm open for trollblockers. And for norwegische superknullers of course. ;)
