Origin of handles
category: general [glöplog]
I know we had a thread about the origin of prodnames, but where are you handles coming from? Where were they inspired?
Mine is obviously from the discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

From the Jodorowsky movie of course :)

my handle is sigflup. I liked how the unix signal sighup sounded but I didn't want to be named after a signal. So now I go by sigflup
alright, i'll do it too...
(..though i plan to change my handle eventually because its pretty unoriginal)
(i mean ive seen some people using the same handle as me)

i've been drinkin an jammin together with an ex-gf and singer. we wanted to think of bandnames that were barely okay. balancing on the edge of the unaccepable. not knowing that the edge we were dancing on would shift the fuck in the wrong direction, i made the regrettable decision to create something in the fashion of rammstein, but a little more ambiguous. and after i had to explain the name in depth to every journalist or critical listener for about 12 years, i thought well, now it doesn't matter anymore, lets make this my handle, too. i never run out of bad ideas. anybody want some?
The first clown that got elected as federal deputy in Brazil, although my views on politics are different. For whom understands portuguese, this is more or less the political campaign he did: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=myWRb0IWPFY. In short: "What does a federal deputy do? I don't know but elect me and I will tell." Brazilian politics is bizarre and what is happening right now there is just sad.
i had a really lame handle when i entered the local bbs scene in late 1996, and in 1997, i wanted to have a new one - and i read something about computer parts and was fascinated by dip switches which are called "mäuseklavier" (mouse piano) in german. luckily i looked up the english term and didn't go with "mäuseklavier", although it would have made a cool jumalauta handle. =)
I was talking with a friend of mine (map) about names and stuff and he told me that it's kinda special to have both an x and a q in your name, i was like... x…q sounds good. That's my new handle!
And thus it happened that the last letter of my first name and the first letter of my last name got my new handle which i decided spontaneously UNC'17 to enter the scene with a new handle and stop carrying around "MasterQ32" which i really find childish now.

must have been about 15y old. religion class in school. bored as fuck. i daydreamed about playing warcraft 3, a classic german map called "Seelenjagd", made by a certain False_PropheT (iirc, 's been forever). And because we were at a certain chapter at the time in class, False.Genesis was the first thing to come to mind so i used that for a long time. But most web input fields are stupid and want alphanumeric input only, and i was also very lazy and needed something for irc, so eventually it was shortened to fgenesis. never changed nicks so far, and likely never will.
It was fall of 2002 and i had just found this site to listen to the good old SIDs and mods from earlier days (Nectarine) but in order to request tunes you needed to register (via Ojuice iirc). So you needed a handle but didnt wanna use any of old swapping handles, and there was this finnish black metal CD from Thy Serpent on table, or in vicinity anyway. Thy dropped later at some point and it was just Serpent. Thats about it aaaand i dont really like the handle, but it is what it is :)

Not really sure as I changed to this one around 1993 or so. Probably had something to do with the music I was into at the time.
Daddy Freddy is a raggamuffin artist from the late 80's.
i misremembered Boris Vallejo
I thought The Lawnmower Man was amazing when I was 13. I'm sure I've denied this in the past, but by now I'm too old to care about pretending to be cool. Haven't seen it in at least 20 years, and at this point, I think I'd rather not ruin my false memories of it not being terrible.
