I feel like I should say something. This was 6 months ago and my mindset was somehow quite different, but still... I just want to give some context here.
The idea of making jazz versions of scene music came to me around 2004. Back then, the direction was a bit more Richard Cheese and the whole Vegas/Lounge sound, but I lacked a brass section and cheesiness. Also, Ultrasound happened and I thought it was probably better to make rock versions instead.
I guess the concert with Ob and Igor made me realize that I can explore other worlds and sounds, while paying tribute to the wonderful music made in demoscene. I never composed anything relevant in the scene, so I'm happy to give new life to these great tunes and maybe put some smiles in your faces.
The jazz versions weren't just "ok, let's make it shuffle, lay drums and a double bass" kind of process, there was some strong chord rewrites in some of them. Also, Midnight Run in 6/8 time signature! Sorry, aMUSiC :) I was prepared to do this by myself, but darya and kb offered to help in the whole concert, which made me really happy! Unfortunately, due to reasons we had to change stuff in the last minute and didn't really rehearse. It's like Ultrasound all over again, right?
Overall, it was a great experience, I had lots of fun and I would never imagine I could play a jazz concert at a demoparty. The audience was amazing - like, they didn't go away, even with the weather and all that jazz (pun intended) - and I couldn't be more grateful.
I'd like to say thank you to everyone involved, either at the party or in this recording. Great orgas, and great job with the sound as well. Special thanks to yoda for the keyboard!
Also, my eternal gratitude to darya, kb and scamp for allowing this to happen and rocking my world. I miss you.
