Very cool

Oh man this blew me away on stream. Awesome realtime GI. It's a bit more noisy seeing the real thing but I understand why that is. Just wondered if it might benefit from a bilateral filter pass just to smooth it out a bit? Runs very fast on a 1070 by the way.

Hey.. you stole my intro name :D
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=10249 (even though i mispelled it)

Just kidding... great intro.

Splotch Attack!
(nice stuff, could have used more content though)

Drift: it does have a (40 tab spiral) bilateral filter, otherwise it's way worse. But I will do some various tuning now when back on decent hardware - things should perform better.
SCA: in fact we also stole the polka intro screenshot for the party system screenshot :D

Oh, this is really cool! The end feels like a potential climax, too bad that it ends there. Very powerful music :)

So cool! Those bubbles make me thirsty! Quite a bit of surprise to hear another great soundtrack by Punqtured. You have a lot of creative output nowadays :)

Psycho: Epic! i thought it was a mere coincidence that the name was the same.
Good thing i did'nt follow the livestream, as i would have shit a brick if i had seen that :D
Feel kinda honored that my 26 year old dentro even registred on someones radar in 2016. Thanks for making my day.

Fun fact: the original name came after sitting at South Sealand Party 1994 with a somewhat finnished dentro with no name, and thinking.. "This tune (.mod) sound a little bit like Bubbles in trouble.. so lets call it 'Bobble Trouble'"

3D 360 degree video version for VR headsets (takes a while to render that video): youtube and download

Works great with mobile/tablet too :-)

really nice 4ko ! lots of strange glitch ^^ not enougt GI in demo/intro. nice tune too!
for the "360vr" video you did everything with a special exe ? or calculated 6x the scene with different cam and assemble with a tool ? i'm curious :)

The needed transformation is described here: https://developers.google.com/vr/jump/rendering-ods-content.pdf

So, instead of the normal perspective ray setup:
Code: vdir = normalize(rotatey(rotatey(float3((1.*DTid.x / WIDTH - .5) * aspect, .5 - 1.*DTid.y / HEIGHT, 1).yxz, pitch).yxz, heading))

I do: (skipping the pitch rotation as it just makes you sick anyway)
Code:float h = (DTid.x*1. / WIDTH - .5)*6.283 + heading, p = (.5 - frac(DTid.y *2. / HEIGHT))*3.1415; campos += float3(cos(h), 0, -sin(h))*.02 * ((DTid.y>HEIGHT / 2) ? 1 : -1); // small world - 4 cm eye spacing vdir = float3(sin(h)*cos(p), sin(p), cos(h)*cos(p));

Quite straightforward in a raytracer - doing the stereoscopic 360 for a normal rasterizer would be a lot more involving.

And then "just" render out to a movie stream in 3k*3k*60hz :)

Great stuff!

neat! the low-frequency flicker and harsh edge aliasing are kind of disturbing and there seems to be some mysterious light that appears before the spheres and doesn't really come from the scene (?!) but still, way above the average for real-time GI. the tune and geometry aren't bad either.

I guess I'm a philistine. Can anyone explain what's going on here so I can appreciate it?

Basically some awesome soundtrack and some shiny bubbles conquering a cubic abstract something, all well in sync and well exectued in 4k. Me likes, music alone deserves a thumb <3

I like it.
I wonder what's the meaning of boubles turning gray at the end of intro.
Also thanks for link to documentation for 360vr. I found it long time ago, bookmark it, but later they change the address, and I was searching for it since then.

I see what it's doing, but somehow it looks more like the floor changing its diffuse color instead of indirect lighting. Also I see many pitch black pixels at discontinuities (NaNs?) here. Didn't like the sound of the music at all. Still solid thumb for the tech
rulez added on the 2016-11-14 18:34:52 by cupe cupe
cupe: I don't think there are any NaNs, or pitch black that shouldn't be there - remember there is only a single bounce (with 4 rays per pixel in the normal version), so you can't get too far away from lit surfaces. If there is a problem it's more likely the random distribution that may miss some directions.
You are right that the lightning from the balls looks a bit weird sometimes (especially when a new one pops), I'll mostly attribute that to the nature of the ball field (as also witnessed in the shadows in the first ball scenes before they are turned on - especially in the (old) youtube version), and probably exaggerated by the lowered precision for diffuse/shadow(/diffuseshadow) rays.
added on the 2016-11-14 20:38:09 by Psycho Psycho
fair enough, it's as good as it gets in 4k and realtime (or is it?)
added on the 2016-11-15 10:14:33 by cupe cupe
If the bubbles had looked less 'flat' this would have been significantly cooler and made the ending have more impact when they went gray. As is, they almost look like sprites most of the time.

Really liked the soundtrack tho.

Very nice tech demo! More GI explorations in 4k please!
Also I'm happy that you guys used my maze-like SDF (finally it got used productively...) and gave me credit for it!
