A kind of low quality 720p video capture is here atm:

"Made with DirectX10, because, admit it, most of you watch only video captures of demos..."
I hate video captured demos. Demos should be realtime, right? I want to thumb this prod down for that sole reason, but I'm not that childish so I go for piggy instead. I really want to see this demo in realtime but I don't want to buy a new OS for it...
added on the 2008-08-27 10:08:14 by Frost Frost
I really like the mood and the look of the opening scene! That's really cool.
from there it's goes to "meh" in the scene with the tower, and then to "eeew" when the credits appeared.
overall verdict: piggy

I watch vids if i have too, doesn't bother me. But...erm, unless i'm missing something obvious i see no reason for that to be DX10 :/ Something quite nice about the demo(tune was nice and relaxing) though, but still it can only be a piggy.

I can't even capture this, thanks! >:(

Frost: come on, flaming DX10 is so 2007 :p

just accept vista/DX10 as a new platform : would you flame someone because he coded for a xbox or a c64 you wouldn't own ?

(btw i'm not a vista zealot at all, i don't plan to switch this year)

great 'moody' demo, in contrast with 'other' nvscene demos based on wow factor :)

didnt much like the visuals or the music ( and i thought my vocal samples were bad :D ), seems quite unfinished design wise, however it does have an ambient quality to it that could've been explored and indeed resulted in a quite cool experience.

"Made with DirectX10, because, admit it, most of you watch only video captures of demos..."

Wow, and you people thought Ungol had an arrogant statement.
added on the 2008-08-27 10:35:28 by Shifter Shifter
Actually, the video didnt run here, it complains about some invalid sample description.. So yeah, so much for that then :D

Rather dull and boring in most parts.
Not a reason to install vista.

Can't watch the demo, can't watch the video. Does DX10 always bring so many benefits?
added on the 2008-08-27 10:50:58 by xTr1m xTr1m
Please, stop the comments about DX10. I get it. Try MPlayer with native H264 support, if you still want to watch it.

Please, stop the comments about DX10.

Make a DX9 version and most people probably will.

Imbusy: you are really improving per demo.. keep up the good work!
rulez added on the 2008-08-27 10:58:18 by magic magic
As if it was some paid work to make demos. I wanted to try this new API, I liked it and made a demo. Like Zest said "flaming DX10 is so 2007".
added on the 2008-08-27 10:58:52 by imbusy imbusy
Nobody's flaming DX10 per se. It's just that with the whole "Vista only" thing projected against the shitty market share of Vista, it's a bit childish to go "so 2007" on people's asses.

As if it was some paid work to make demos.

In this particular case, you didn't take part in the demo kit handouts then?
added on the 2008-08-27 11:04:29 by Shifter Shifter
eh, Capped.TV version of video.

Shifter: may i remind you of a basic clue : a demo is made primarily for a platform and/or a compo machine, not *yours* : if it runs on yours too, hurray for extra bonus!
added on the 2008-08-27 11:16:53 by Zest Zest
I have seen Vista. I will not use Vista.

I have nothing against demos-as-videos since it's becoming less and less meaningful for a demo to be realtime, unless there's something really that-cannot-be-done-realtime stuff. Most demos don't have it, and neither has this.

A piggy for the content.

i like it even if i don't have vista so

Nothing to justify the use of dx10 (well, except perhaps the coders' preference, which I can understand), and I had to download a new player just to watch the video!

Other than that, I really like the demo, so thumb up :)
rulez added on the 2008-08-27 11:45:06 by psonice psonice
Zest: If vista/dx10 is a new platform then pouët needs a new category. :)

I'll watch the demo on my girlfriends Vista machine and I'll thumb this demo after that.
added on the 2008-08-27 11:50:32 by Frost Frost
I agree with V3nomsoup. Terrible soundtrack!

Visuals were ok, but like Psonice said, nothing to justify DX10 here.

Overall, quite forgettable.

Zest: you need not explain some bogus rule about hardware platforms -for some crazy reason, I happen to know about such things :)

May I remind you of a basic clue that is actually relevant to the discussion: setting a higher-than-common spec for your audience which is completely unjustifiable for what is done, can -and will- get you some remarks on the matter. Being a cock about it won't help you there.

By far the best Brainstorm demo. I just love the slow progress and mood in this demo. The different parts are not shown unnecessary long.
Thumbs up.

I can see the concept in this, at some points I had the impression that a transition would follow/should have followed, but it wasn´t there, maybe for deadline reasons. Anyway, I liked the music, and as I tend to be a couchpotatoe myself (10 minutes a day), I sofathumb this up.

people should stop bashing dx10 only. i mean it's tough enough whipping up something and we'll be all transitioning that way slowly anyway. and that aside, doing a proper dx9 impl includes a lot of trivial crap code thats just not worth the time if you dont have it clobbering up some of your hd space already.

now the demo: nice!
rulez added on the 2008-09-08 08:21:56 by superplek superplek
Your effects in this one are pretty good, imbusy, but you need to work with a visual designer on your art.

The music is nice, but a large part of the demo is plain ugly (the star background even looks like 1992...). And claiming "Made with DirectX10, because, admit it, most of you watch only video captures of demos..." would be sufficient for a second thumb.

I loved the music, loved the beginning, hated the end.

I, too, think the statement "Made with DirectX10, because, admit it, most of you watch only video captures of demos..." is a bit too rude and arrogant, but well...

In any case, piggy is it.
