...as I got a bit bored with x86 recently...some Risc OS promotion intro from me. A 832 byte intro for that operating system (Risc OS 5.24), tested on a Raspberry PI3 (should run on other Risc SO platforms, too, until they got a NEON capable CPU), including some bytebeat ported from my old DOS intro, running at 800x600. Check the ReadMe for more info...should serve more or less also as a tutorial if you want to code for that OS/ARM platform :-)

It's not an ideal platform for sizecoding (more OS interaction needed, every instruction 32 Bit,...) but lots of fun to code with the integrated BASIC assembler.

Youtube (cam capture) can be found here

...I waited for that ;-) actually basic idea coded many months before...the only thing that should spread is Risc OS !

Srsly, propz for the effort. 4 bytes for each instruction no matter what sounds horrible for sizecoding :D i have one of these PI 4 complete systems, i might prepare a card with risc OS and try your intro for real =)

For RPI4 it's not fully ready, some obstacles with the USB drivers, but doable with some additional hardware and quirks. Check here for more information and downloads. Some Status on the port for RPI4 here

what a surprise... platform thumb!
(why didn't use your hdmi capture hardware?)

@TomCat: It didn't like the screenmode or frequency...I'll send you a private mail later...I wonder why it works for DOS at lower resolutions and not with the RPI...

nice!

sadly my rpi is too old to support NEON instructions (v1.2 B+ --> ARMv6)

couldn't you have done part of the intro in Thumb mode, though?

...IIRC Risc OS doesn't support Thumb, of course would be shorter and may be doable, but also that full screen blur thing relies heavily on those NEON instructions...calculating 16 pixels per loop very easily and fast.

@porocyon: Just a small correction here...meanwhile we found out that Risc OS acutally does support thumb mode :-)
