anyone fancy explaining the trick to the not C64 HW aware people ?
Nice.
Kewl effect for its time. P01: Just read the scroll. :)
:p thanks.
I don't realize exactly how hardcore it is ( compared to say doing fullscreen or hardscroll on a STf ) but it seems there's a lot of work behind that effect.

Beyond horse \o/
p01: actually there's not much work behind this effect at all... but as people said, cool for its time (when the vic was not nearly as explored as today, and people kept their discoveries secret, and no docs on the internet - meaning coded today it'd nothing to raise anybody's eyebrows).
Krill: This Statement is nonsense and contradicts itself at several points. My 5 cents: Back then little was known about the VIC, therefore it was HARD work to find effects like that one. People did not kept their discoveries secret, they rather shared them on other ways. From close friends to Elite. And really.. The relationship and effect of it today isn't playing a role. You can not even compare it to today. But the code introduced to the wider audience is a basic layer for things done today.
@p01: Normal display modes either have 2 colors every 8x8 pixels (on a 320x200 resolution) or 3 colors every 4x8 pixels and one background color for the entire screen (160x200 resolution). Basically it's not possible to have more than 3 unique colors every color cell, but this demos shows 8 unique colors and it was the first which did that.
And I also have to disagree with Krill. Nobody knew about the true power of the $D011 register back then. Ofcourse it's easy if somebody tells you how it works or you can simply read it up in a VIC article like nowadays...
