Actually, I think the ST version was the original and the XL version was a proof-of-concept that it could also be done on 8-bit... Darn, I even have the original October 1986 issue of A.N.A.L.O.G. magazine containing an article about the Xanth demos (p. 111), but it doesn't say which one was first. Maybe it was the 8-bit one after all.
