Very nice... But the last 2 minutes in the video is just blankblankblank.

fragment, it's my amazing capture skills... too lazy to crop it.... the tape ends with that next level blaa blaa...

wow, that's a collector!
I didn't knew the SEGA32 was that powerfull.

A chance for you that you haven't recorded that demo on a porn movie. You may have been compromised by the blank at the end. :p

Yes, this really rocks. When I saw, the demo was made by the group, which made the gamedemo/-beta "Hardwired" for the Mega Drive/Genesis, I knew this will rock. But what I saw was even better. But personally I think, there is much more power in the 32X. --- I want the rom to see this demo in realtime and live on my 32X.

Nice to finally have some 32x stuff on pouet. Even if it's very ad-tech-3d-demo-company style (Zyrinx was a game dev team which consisted of some ex-demosceners...).

I didn't know the 32x could do stuff like that. Reminds me of too many amiga tech demos :)

And I think it's been too long since anyone used a good voxel engine...

cool :) I hadnt even heard about this machine.. Tech specs below. It had hw accel in 94

quite cool :) i guess there weren't many games that actually used even half of the machine's potential.

good demonstration of the power of the ill-fated 32X. Despite being a technical showreel, it has a distinctive demo look... I particularly like the voxel part at the end :)

i love sega!
they always knew how to produce great hardware!
and great demonstration of the hw, btw. ;)

Zyrinx was basically crionics (the spy, deftronics, murphy etc) + kyd/balle aka the makers of hardwired :-)... some of them now work on the big "hitman" series of games.

The most impressive game done by them tho' imho would be subterrania for the mega-drive. It has a very neat soundsystem that enabled jesper kyd to compose in 44khz fm music instead of the standard 11khz (i think) for mega drive.Everything else is also exelent. Check it out!

Mark: in the thrashbin?
You are my hero!

BTW.-..i like very much this demo...the 32X hardware was powerful, indeed.

I always suspected zyrinx of being demosceners, but I never put them together with the hardwired demos until now. Kyd, too.

good demo. some of the voxels are very pretty. and the rest is top notch too. cutting edge for that day. put to good use. hardwired makers rule!

Wow! Never knew the 32X can do such stuff! Actually I had never seen a 32X in real life to know :)

Rocks, just saw that video whilst searching for AMOK Reviews. A Sega Saturn game (originally for the 32x. You can even see some voxelstuff right from the game in the Demo) by the same team.

wow!
I have a few corrections:

1. There were a few more Silents members in Zyrinx. Sionic and Guzzler come to mind.

2. This presentation was not just done by Zyrinx, but by Zyrinx and Lemon - two separate teams. And it wasn't Lemon as in the Dutch/Danish/Norwegian demogroup, but just Jade and me (we needed a company name fast. This was the first thing that came to mind).

Zyrinx did the polygon part and Jacob and I made the voxel part. Since the 32x died, zyrinx ported their engine and I ported our engine to Saturn. It had the same dual-SH2 processor setup, so it was quite easy to port. On the Saturn, Zyrinx of course switched over to use the hardware polygon rendering, while I stuck with voxels (and the processors were fast enough for me to keep a relatively steady 30fps in singleplayer mode and 20fps in dualplayer splitscreen :-) Zyrinx shipped "Scorcher" for Saturn and PC, and Lemon shipped "Amok" for Saturn and PC. In my opinion, Scorcher had fantastic physics for its' time.

3. The 32x had no hardware acceleration. It had 2 fast processors, but all the rendering was done by software. That was also why I was experimenting with voxels - in my mind that would fit better for the 32x.

And no, I don't have the rom anymore :-)

Very impressive stuff, I did some homebrew on 32x and there is really a gap between THIS and the system sheets...

Were the lens flare effects made with photoshop? You worked in paletized mode or 15bit mode for your vorxels?

Hannibal, I'm very impressed, we would be very happy if you come across a segadev board to leave a message :) (sorry for the off topic, seems i cannot contact you other way).

sega32x is a double risc cpu upgrade for the megadrive, don't confuse this with the standard platform...

not that this is bad stuff in any way, certainly not for those days :)

I would love to have the rom. This is certainly a lot more impressive than I expected, as I didn't know the machine was capable of that. The camera movements are also pretty nice.

@keops: texture mapping had to be done via the CPU. and the stunning thing: according to some developers the 32x could do faster texture mapping on the CPU than the Saturn via hardware!

32X - an addon gone HORRIBLY wrong.

Now I understand HOW horribly wrong it went - but I'm not really sure whether it really can process polygons that quickly.

I'm not sure if anyone who can answer the question will see this, but here I go. I have recently been playing the Saturn game Scorcher which was mentioned by Hannibal above and I noticed that the game's manual mentions graphics options (including a cool-sounding wireframe mode) but these options are nowhere to be found in the game. I haven't found any info online about this yet, so I'm hoping someone who was close to the developers would know something about it. Can anyone help?

In any case the graphics of Scorcher are awesome, and this 32X demo reel is amazing. It's such a shame that the ROM has been lost forever (or has it?).
