very nice even if I prefer the demo that's on second place - maybe because it looks kinda fresh. music is nice too - good thing the wobwob is not that much :D

Very nice stuff that would probably be better off in a non-textmode demo compo; Some parts require too much detail.
Very nice sound track!

Non-ASCII pls!

Was rather surprising to see it indeed uses all cores at 100%. Are you doing some elabarate raytracing or something?

Cool!

Works on dualcore too. ;) Looks nice, but I guess it's just "yet another 3D renderer downscaling stuff to textmode resolution"...

Really good, a clever way to make low-res raymarching look good!

excellent, enjoyed every second of it :)

I think, an ASCII demo deserves a 4k capture, nothing less!

great demo!
quad core for text-mode?!
come on..

"Habe ich schon gesehen. Großer Schwachsinn." [/Marvin]

No, for real: good job once again! Got even better than the last ones, choice-of-scenes-wise and actual eyecandy delivered in textmode!

lsl: downthumbing for making use of multicore? i mean: would you rather like it better to have just one of 8 Threads at 12.5% and the rest idling around, while the demo renders in 20fps or sth? It may not be necessary to use multicore, but i say it´s a great addition to the code.

Great stuff, very beautiful scenes! Would like to see more effort put into ascii renderer. Nevertheless, that's a great piece of art, congratulations!

Nice .. would be interesting to know something about the implementation details behind this, tho.

hardy: take f.e. "Heaven Seven", which did run perfectly on my 350MHz PII, add textmode-"renderer"... quad-core? srsly.

Love this music! Very great. Visually also quite nice, even though it features a tad too much detail, imho. That makes it look a bit messy overall.
rulez added on the 2014-01-13 10:42:42 by elend elend
Enjoyed it, although it's pushing the text mode res slightly too hard perhaps. Looks interesting technically, ray marching with motion blur? Can we have some technical details? Or, better still, a high-res offline render? :D

@ccr: Sphere tracing. I have a set of renderable objects with distance, shading and normal functions. The result is an R8G8B8 which goes through a textmode converter. The texmode data is either dumped into a console or rasterized and displayed in an OpenGL window. I have a separate tool for editing curves which exports curve data directly in static C vectors. For sync I use clock()*.001/BPM*60

@lsl: To some degree you are right. I could have optimised it more. I'm using my code from 2 years ago and don't have time to optimise it. On the other hand my system is based on sphere tracing which is computationally more expensive than raytracing but allows me to easily do interesting stuff.

Looks fresh, like a music clip. Works fine on my old Athlon64.

@lsl:
It´s in a console, software-rendered, so you HAVE TO put multicore-functionality in there, else every computer with multicores would only use the first core.
I think you are getting it wrong all the time, it runs fast on a singlecoreCPU, so theres absolutely no NEED TO have any multicoreCPU, but it would be slower than on singlecores without adding code for multicore-functionality (divide computing power by number of HTT). And while at it i guess mu6k made use of having it anyway, adding optimizations for quadCores, thats why he recommends it.
Looks like a regular demo, behind an ASCII filter rather than a textmode demo. Nice to watch anyway.

brainstorm delivers every single time when it comes to text mode demos (refering to outohmat, lick weed and retext)!

Disturbingly slow at parts on a computer that should be able to do this a lot faster.

Definitely worth downloading and running. Youtube's encoding is pretty brutal on it.

Yup, it's a bit slow and "textmode by filter" is probably not what was originally intended by the creators of this compo, but the result is still pretty cool. Very smooth and likeable tune as well.

Haha, you can barely read a fullscreen logo even with it subpixelshifting :D Using text mode is silly, I bet this would look good even fullres. In other words, I want what Salinga wants ;)

The music steps to me. Well done.

Most high end looking text demo I ever saw :) Somehow the text resolution makes the brain interpret even more realizm compared to the hires render (rip english)
