what is an REU file? I wish somebody would youtube this in action :)
REU files are basically an image of data stored on a Ram Expansion Unit connected to a C64, same as a D64 images data from a 5.25'' floppy.
Since not many have REU hardware, the 1541u has the option to emulate an REU (assuming that it's enabled from the configuration menu) and therefore you can load .reu files onto it. Or, in Vice, go to hardware expansion settings, enabled REU and load the .reu file that way.

Some might consider REU as a "kind of a cheat", because REU basically enables fast DMA type action, so many things that are practically impossible on "stock" C64 become possible. It's even possible to use REU for certain types of VIC-II screen effects.
