some heavy 3d scenes here, but they're quite beautiful. and there's really a lot of stuff in it, the intro goes on and on and on. i like it

Boring to death. Some people fell asleep during Sonnet. That tells just about everything.
atmospheric.
Some good ideas but the result isn't. Too long and ugly textures. Sucking up the partypeople. (or i'm just jealous).
well, it's not fastpaced like most demos are at the moment, instead it's slow and beautiful. I enjoyed it very much ;)
These 3State folks are GODS. Even though some people don't like nature demo/intros.. this is just a wonderful piece of art.
Yet more wussy feminine euro-poetry. But the visuals and music make up for it. How couldn't I praise it?
godlike
beautiful and well thought-out, long but not boring at all. I adore it.
though admittedly this is a production that's best experienced on monitor; on the big screen it didn't work quite so well - the colors looked brash and the morphing borders seemed silly (amazing how much better that looks on monitor!)
still it was very disappointing to see some people jeer at this while it was shown. the audience at asm01 was a bunch of total idiots.
anyway... if I had to think of something that bothers me here, it's the texts. are they necessary? most of the time "poetry" in demos feels like the authors don't quite rely on their visuals and try to masquerade them with text overlays. which is completely unnecessary here...

thats a great one. i hope it will soon be ahead of that more than strange antimoney in the charts :)
erm yes!
hm, seeing it for the 3rd time it gets pretty boring and you recognize that it's actually quite pointless. but oh well.
let's celebrate nature.
cool tune
cool tune
i actually fell asleep during this intro.
Very good intro. Ok yeah, maybe a bit too long, but you have to see it anyway. 3state rulez.
Tried to watch it 3 times.. (including during the compo) and ehrm.. no.. once i fell asleep during the 5mins loading time.. and with the 1ghz at asm i could make it almost the first season.. but .. never more.
you guys have a very short attention span.. go watch mtv.
oh yeah right.. you are just... SO SMART !
Still, this tune is a bit of a downpoint, as it just sounds too chippy. With the power of realtime synthesis, a much more fitting, atmospheric tune would have been possible...
But anyway, a really cool intro which i definitely enjoyed to watch, even if it's slow here and there.

This product makes you happy ;)
for some reason the intro crashes on my amd 1200mhz with a geforce2mx (newest drivers and windows2000).
sorry to say that the module totally ruined it for me (sorry vic)
never the less, very lovely landscapes and such..
btw, is it a 4chnl mod? :)
sure sounded like one in headphones
oh and kids, dont watch sonnet on a tnt2pci :P
sloooooooooooow

comment on kb's post:
chippy ? apart from the excessive sinewave abuse here and there i dont hear anything 'chippy' about it .. but then again i never saw the whole intro :)

lovely visuals, really quite impressive that they packed so much in. maybe a bit dull in places, but when the autumn kicks in, it shows some real style.
but the music is below what it should be. maybe its not a chip, maybe it has 2mb of samples, but they apparently weren't very good samples. =) of course its hard to get a long tune in an intro, but still, something a bit higher quality was expected.
otherwise, marvelous.

another great improvement for the final would be a higher resolution for most of the textures...
one of the most boring ones at asm.
BTW, this is the first ever NON-Finnish PC intro to win at Assembly. Odd, huh? Maybe that's why some ppl thought Tripfish 2 should've won. :)
Oh well.. if you have a short attention span or hate the outdoors, I guess you won't like this. Also, I wish the samples were better, Vic had some great ideas in his tune and it could've been better with the right samples.

Marvellous...
watch it, FEEL it
watch it, FEEL it
sagacity... hm? sizeoptimizing?
does that mean that we are not the only ones who think that final version should be smaller anymore? :)

A very nice intro, but at the same time it's quite long and with little "content" so to speak. Didn't like the music either. In the end I was pretty bored, which in my eyes, makes it an "OK" production.
BTW; was it supposed to go all flatshaded at the end?
BTW; was it supposed to go all flatshaded at the end?
i like the topic of sonnet, but the intro is way to looong. the music (four channels!?) is unbelieveably bad for a song done by vic. it ruins the whole atmosphere.
It could have been something if it was shorter, faster (it's creepy on my p3 450 TNT2 machine) and with a more fitting and atmospheric tune.
3state loves to experiment with styles, and I like that. But I can't really say I like this one.
I pressed escape after a minute or so, and left it at that.
It's not *that* pretty, suffers from over-the-top design tidbits (the frame, for instance is fresh, but was annoying after a while) and so deliberately long...I liked the tune (as a chiptune) though.
Sonnet was a bold move from the previous 3state stuff, but a move that left me really wondering what they smoke (crack?) during their meetings =)

something i don't understand shifter, how "a minute or so" is too long?
Play sonnet and you'll find out.
Seriously, I didn't use a stopwatch to see when I lost interest, but one or two scenes after the grid o' green spikes (grass, apparently) I pressed the upper left key on my keyboard.
Ah, did i mention that the progress bar was not in that minute or so?

'I' don't need to play sonnet (doesn't run on my machine anyway) but i enjoyed watching it at asm. clearly it has character, it is slow paced, surely not the typical rgb color fast paced tunnels and weird metaballs transversed by wild cameras.. but it's coherent, and i found, enjoyable, as long as you adapt your own pace to the intro's pace, and you give it a chance. (of course it's like <a href="http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=313">the fulcrum</a>, a production that i'm not going to watch every week)

w00ps :) and i meant, the fulcrum
I know they don't smoke crack, they're quite sweet-looking at demo parties. (Sarcasm doesn't pay off here, I guess)
And Fulcrum...ah, it's a brilliant demo. The start may not be fast paced, but that is not the point: In Fulcrum you were rewarded for the slow advancement with brilliant code, graphics and overall design. Sonnet simply doesn't have the 'pull' to justify the crawl of progression. (The scenes aren't very earth-shattering, and the (suspiciously visualice-like) typeface won't help that)
And before you start: No, that's not a lack of attention span, just a matter of taste.

Shifter: Just go and watch the damn intro to the end before nailing it down.
For me Sonnet is clearly the best intro released this year so far. Rise by Mindforce & Park comes near but Sonnet goes much more further with the slowly evolving atmosphere.
I agree it's also a production you don't want to see too often (I actually saw it only once in the intro compo jury)...
And hey, I even like the music even tho' I'm normally not a big fan on Vic's. :)

For the sake of argument, I did just that, Melwyn. Hasn't changed a damn thing, I still think it's not all that it's cracked up to be.
It was pleasant to hear the music finish though. It's still the best thing about the intro as far as I feel. =)

nice intro, but after seeing it i had a sort of "it could have been good"-feeling.
Ugly and boring. (tho the music is somewhat nice towards the end)
Well, to begin with let me say this... I don´t quite get peoples trip with this algorithmic compression started by farb-rausch... It´s boring, it doesn´t contain any impressing "effects" whatsoever...it´s just regular conceptual coding with no motive of pushing peoples perception...if you get my point...It´s not bad or lousy it´s just boring and mainstream...
Adding insult to injury: some feedback from retired sceners who were forced to watch it, and somehow none were happy.
"Looks impressive for a software intro...-oh, it's hardware?"
"Is that green grid supposed to be grass, or am I that drunk?"
"Can I go back to coding now?"
"Noise textures. Did we have to wait that long for noise textures? fr-08 had proper texures and music for the tenth of the time"
"Sonnet, Sonnet... Isn't that the intro we prematurely esc'ed last week?"

sagacity, was that supposed to some sort of an insult?!?
Wel sagacitiy, as a matter of fact, they were pleased 50-50 with it. They loved that marching cube crap.
I don't see what that would have to do with Sonnet though.
I don't see what that would have to do with Sonnet though.
A great intro which is very beautiful. This intro do indeed make my bodytemperature drop at the end.
Magic Intro.. a little boring (i'm sorry) but.. very beuty! i great! but 3state.. you can do it better! go go! :)
A really good intro! I want the final version!
No sir, I didn't like it. The *ideas* were good, but talk about boring! Watching a glass of water evaporate would be more fun.
Has some very nice stuff and scenes, and I sort of like the music, but that's about it. Except for that, I mean, try watching this thing twice in a row and you will understand.
However, i still consider this a "must see" for it's radically different style. O well... i'll still give it a thumbs up.

i especially loved the music, but the rest is particularly long and boring to me ...
so i decently cannot give it a thumbs up, it's quite disappointing from 3state ... but still ok ...

Perfect.Cool 3d scenes. It's a little bit boring (just a little) but the visual result is amazing. And all these in 64 kb. Great job guys!!
Just saw this for the first time on my brothers ridiculously powerful pc (and he only uses it to run office 2000... criminal) - oh my god. oh my good giddy gosh. this is really quite proper. it IS a shame it needs such high-end hardware - but, what a piece of art... i rate this way more than fr-08. sorry guys.
das produkt had better music, but this has the aesthetics down, and very intelligent direction, and transitions between scenes. fr08 is UGLY. i loved it anyway, but i love this more. simply breathtaking.
still, don't pay any attention to me, i think the best 64kb intro ever is Bakkslide by hellcore and omnicolor. ;¬p

Sonnet is impressive for its size. Of course it needs to pre-calculate its guts before starting... Also it lasts quite long. The work is very good though. Design is quite nice, only some colors could be better. If you absolutely hate 3d-fly-bys, stay away, and don't listen to it with headphones as I did because the stereo separation sucks! :-) Oh, and speaking of music, some vibratos/tremolos would make the music so much smoother...
Anyway, I liked it.
Anyway, I liked it.
there's a difference between slow-paced and boring. this is simply boring.
I like it.
The loading part is VERY long.
The first part's design simply sucks.
The rest is history... Atmosphere is the keyword...

Beats fr-08 if you ask me!
Extream!! yikes!! Damn cool, effects. Can't understand hw this was made..lol
Wow! This is the best intro released in the last year, it rocks!
Impressive how much threestate managed to get into a 64k-intro.
I think it should have been maybe 30% shorter, but what the heck, I wasn't bored.

Technically cool, but boring like hell, I really had to force myself to watch it until the end.
boring. boo-ring. >yawn!<
Good production, sucky colors, a bit boring.
nugde: agreed.
Quite a pain with headphones because of the 'stereo bug', but otherwise a good intro.
time for a thumb. very nice colours in this demo imho :)
It's always a poor reflection when the precalculating lasts longer than the intro. But even after the wait (2 cups of coffee, a shower and a short nap) there's nothing to justify this.
The visuals are average, the poetry is twee and hackneyed, and the shrill music is very unpleasant.

Preload lasts way too long, and the beginning is rather crappy (did I wait that long just for watching THAT shit?). But then... the strange music is pretty addictive time, and the graphics fit the atmosphere.
I still do not know wether I like this prod or not...

slow and beautiful
nice, beautiful.................
really really beautiful 3d scenes! that's the way 3d shoudl be!
very nice rendering of the weather (sun, snow, sunset, etc.). especially the rain is amazing.

very beautiful indeed. perfect music. good cuts.
they should have dropped the lyrics though. and t could have been better technically... needs a fast 3d card for no apparent reason. and some of the textures badly fit together at the edges.

Impressive work and loading time :)
beautiful and human .
yay, yummy one. But, a lil bit tooo longlasting and slow for my taste. but cool nonetheless
example of good (and btw. quite long) axelerated intro. but slow as hell7 :(
nothing out of ordinary but the vibe is unique - rarely you can spot such an innocent beauty in the age of sarcasm and cynism. and despite silly poetry usually ruining the thing, this one carries atmosphere within very well.. i wont complain :) great intro!
marvellous ... giving fr some action eh?
lovely, the words are okay too.
lovely, the words are okay too.
Well done and very atmospheric intro.
it deserves a thumb, it is a good intro.. just really, really boring.
It is a little boring, but I still liked it :)
Bored me to death, but doesn't deserve a sucks due to the time invested in this one
beautiful... and i think it's not THAT boring
skarab does better than this
too long, but four different seasons
Beatiful, but doesn't run on my machine :(
quite long, but it made it
My all-time favorite 64k intro
is there a final to this?? wont run on 2k/rage128.
rewelz!
absolutly beautiful. it starts out "this will suck." then it hits you. "man, this is cool stuff!"
i almost agree. it starts with "this will suck", then it goes on with "man this sucks", and then "oh sweet jesus dubya christ this sucks" and finally "i'm not sure if i've ever seen anything sucking this much before".
In fact, I'm on the edge of actually thumbing this up..

cute
I'm impressed now. Even the loader was well designed.
always liked it.
Nice, but unfortunately very flybyish. What bothers me in Sonnet is that the scenes try to look real, but fail to do so.. I would've preferred a more abstract view on things..
Nothing to say about it, here is my thumb and my heart too :)
This one looked much better at the party place. Didn't touch me... or finger.. or anything else
cute, but dull. some nice ideas, some bad ones ;)
piggy.
piggy.
never thumbed this one? hereby then!
it's beatiful and boring. worth a piggie.
Everything is said already about this intro, so just my vote
kind of cute, but too boring.
A bit too long maybe, but it definitely rulez
slow but cool
looong but good. Nice chilled out style.
beautiful effects and stylish design.
Very cool but too long
I like it !
fond memories of this prod, i guess
Nice !
oww how could i forget this candy ? :/
but lowpoly trees and blockygrass ruine some magic feeling :(
anyway here goes my thumb

Extremely good execution of a nice concept!
very smooth and cute, bit a bit long
lovely
I really like it.
At that time I wasn't able to see it since it required good gfx hardware, and after a lot of precalc time it quitted!
Fortunately now I can see it without problems :)
Very good intro.

Very good intro.
When this intro was seen 3 years ago, I did not understand true goodness.
(At that time, some scene was really slow.)
However, the thing that is good intro can be understood from seeing now.
cool style.
cool story.
and cool music.

I like the style and the chippy soundtrack. Good work!
best 64k ever!
3 years on still holds its ground: wonderful concept, well excecuted.. and magic digi style soundtrack to fit.
demo makes me happy :)

its pretty nice, but the music can get a bit annoying when using a headset due to all the paning.
very nice.. i love it
Did I vote for this? The music's great... get it here
I like it.
It's boring...
aged badly technically. a tad booring aswell. good idea/concept saves it tho.
If your want the music, better get the XM here
great!!!!!!!!!
64K... Amazing.
great
a bit boring but thumb up for the content in there
this is a pure beauty. searched it today because I remembered it as a highlight. 4 seasons in a 64k demo. great work!
Nice one.
The best 64k to catch up with nature.
forgot this.
forgot this.
yes, nice
beautiful
i especially like the music in the begining
ambient music and animation,
camera over landscapes: Spring (grass growing), Summer (sun and butterflies), Autumn (what happened to red), Winter (snow falling, all the landscape in ice)

Very nice, great feeling and a nice soundtrack.
beautiful =)
:)
a very brave approach which turned out quite well if not alone for the lovely music. I remember that even back in 01 some images needed some imagination to complete but then again we didn't have today's packers and other tools. It's really a blast to se it working after all those years. The morphing frame is a nice little gem I've never really seen like this afterwards. Wish 3state would come back ;)
I like the soundtrack a lot.
Good...
Seasonal soundtrack is great, makes prod thumbworthy.
everything is AWESOME
O_o forgot thumb up o_O
Would love to see this remade with today's technologies if only to do justice to how good this prod really is.
ha yes, i've seen this intro very recently since it wasn't working on my old pc, I liked it a lot :)
Threestate!
Still ruling after ten years!
Sweet, scene poetry! and i really liked the opening effect.
absolutely fantastic
A bit too long but brilliant for its time and size.
Beautiful intro and awesome music
For it's size this one has an impressive amount of content. The season idea is well shown, especially the rainy tree and snow scenes made me go "D'AW!".
Too bad it won't properly run in Win7 - as the sound doesn't match the one in the video capture, even with compatibility (XP SP3) mode on. At the iceberg scene it's almost quiet, missing all the mids and bass,- sad beeps.

missing thumb
From the time when most 3D accelerated stuff looked like crap compared to software rendering .. including this. The music does not do it for me either, though it's a nice chip-ish tune, just does not seem to fit. Thus, on the verge of being a piggy, but goes to thumb down because the visuals could've been better with some planning and polishing even with the hardware restrictions.
Sceneboetry-style done correctly. It's long, but uses the length to an advantage by not rushing the content.
Weak-ish thumb up. I really like the song and thought the colour bar-like intro was cool. I have no problems with 3d demos or fly-bys but the poetry doesn't really do it for me. Either way, impressive to have it all in 64k and for how long it is to boot. A great effort, but if there was no poetry I wouldn't feel as hesitant about this thumbs up.
Ignoring the poetry, this intro executes the atmosphere very well, and is immersive.
good memories
good atmosphere
good atmosphere
awesome, despite looooooooooond loading times and sound hard-panning :)
damn. the title screen had me and i hoped that this will be so awesome. unfortunetely the sound is not my cup of tea so are a few scenes. but overall still a thumbs worthy 64k.
kinda wish it was half the length so it could guarantee better gfx and sound
a bunch of scene poetry and long 3d flyby scenes, guess the 3d was impressive in 2001 but does not really hold up
Nice one!
there's actually some surprising depth in the sound design, even with everything being so cheap. For example, the warmer scenes were matched with warmer synth sounds, and vice versa for colder scenes.
Works with dgVoodoo, I made a 1920x1440 youtube capture with the ripped XM for audio.
Lovely!
