Fuck, years after I'm coming back at it and yes, definitely, this is the story of my life.
noby: once again you completely miss the point. Atari version lacks the narrative of the original (all the remixes do) which was "a demo about relationships in 23 bytes." The narrative is the point of the prod first and foremost , with the size coding being a by-product of that. I don't think the other versions are trying to tell a story at all so they've missed the point too.
Well yes I might've been hasty with that comment um, five years ago.... I'd reverse that thumb if I could. With that said I didn't really miss the point, but just didn't think it communicated the idea that well (i.e. having a narrative relies on the storytelling which I find to be lacking, and yeah size coding is one thing but 23 bytes is quite arbitrary to begin with, which makes it seem just a happy accident, which then again is something I don't mind), and didn't personally find the end result that appealing at that point.
