This demo along with Bomb/Impact Studios, changed single-handedly the PC demoscene. It was in France, same year, same party, both prods. None is better than the other, yet they are both very relevand. Constrast is an instant classic. It's worth paying attention to this production.

I like Oxygene! I like their Java Site, I like their Atari demos, I like their PC Demos!
Great demo. I like very much the floor bump mapping, I like the 3d fx (Although they are dark..) I like some 2d fx there..
Cool!

yeah, the demo that started the french 3d-revolution ;)
great bump, great 3d, great music, just great.

but where's the contrast today?
"whattheheck, if we can have ambient light let's put some - say 0.7?"

My favorite demo for years.. and this comes from the man who reviewed hundreds on Hornet. One of the most atmospheric demo soundtracks ever. Great looking 3d scenes for the time, and very fast code (probably some clever fakes :). Even an oldskool tribute with some beautiful-looking vectorball objects. And long enough to keep me pulled in. I wish Oxygene would return to the PC, maybe Leonard can bring back some of the guys. :)
I liked this one a lot. Really nice music, unusually nicely-chosen colours basically all the way through, etc.
Epic demo classic with some nice oldschool flavour, came out at around the same time as inside by cncd. It was really hard choosing between these two when voting the best demo for charts :)
This one really rules. Until Contrast I only have seen very very few good PC demos. But this one really rules, too bad nowadays most of the old DOS demos don't run anymore (at least not in Win2k).
It didn't *singlehandedly* change the pc scene (even together with bomb) but it certainly is cool stuff to stare at. =)
try pressing space key during the demo to watch how much CPU time is consumed :)
Oxygene are my heros!!! (Except Donald Duck ;)
theese days it's boring, but when I first saw it - Aaaaaawwww it ruled!
Not really boring, it has more features than most todayish 3d-engines have.
as pro- as you can get.
Another 'must have' classic demo besides 2nd Reality, Dope or Stars. It looks very nice and the soundtrack is awesome!
my thumb is up :)
Well, it didn't work quite properly in my comp (it was really slow), but i liked the music, and it has a kind of artistic grip.. :)
A demo i showed a lot... A bit long, but a nice trip, great ambiance.
the intro part gave me shivers the first time I saw it, and the demo hasn't lost much since then :) (especially since it's running through in full framerate on newer computers)
cool demo I somehow missed in the good old days and watched for the first time only about a year ago.. some nice heavy 3d and bump-fx afair, but I found reeeeally too long.. 8]
back in 96.. ouch, I've consider this one as one of the best demo ever for a long time...
lovely deserves ten of those thumbs really
Awesome, the demo that (for me) proved that 3d engines could be put to good use beyond #polygons contests.
Too bad I can't watch it anymore.

still a great demo..

oh it's soo good it's soo goood!
Haven't seen this baby since a long time ago... A classic indeed.
this certainly belongs to my personal best-demo-ever top10.
technically average but visually powered to the maximum.

awesome
Brilliant, excellent, awesome!
one of my favorites. revolutionnary use of colors on PC at a design design were lacking.
I'd forgotten what the name of this prod was and I'd been looking for it for years... huuuge nostalgia trip, and still a damn fine demo!
Great music, great effects, great everything.
a must have!
This demo is so slick and polished - I just love it! Probably the best PC-demo ever to be made.
thsi was very nice!
this was. and oxbab is probably the coolest nick ever :)
Atarians do it best ;)
I watched this so many times - especially the music is great, it was one of the first demos to feature "splined camera movements" and it just looked great -- and meant another engine rewrite :-)
memories...
Great!
depth: there were earlier spline cameras... have a look at control/oxygene for examplo ;)
8==o~
the best demo in 1996. respect.
Utterly brilliant. Still very watchable. Puts some of the modern pc demos to shame with style and grace. Not to mention outrageous coding skills. The music still sounds good.
Wonderful atmosphere, nice music and gfx. One of the very best dos demos out there.
You can't do that on PS3!
Wow! massive respect!
massive
Okay, that's brilliant.
sheer beauty
one of my fave pc demos
mine too!!!
Best PC demo ever. Fantastic use of textures to simulate complex lighting. The tunnel scene and the 3d-bobs were simply jawdropping back in 96...

The thumb-hungry gremlin sometimes strikes back...
Dear Santa, this year I have been a very good and mild mannered boy. Will you bring me a win-conversion of Contrast this christmas?
Puulease? I've got cookies and milk waiting here for you!

who needs a win port? runs beautifully in dosbox. <3
that was truly amazing...
Great!
tunnel mapping in spiral
electro music
distortion and stretching of the tunnel mappings
"OXYGEN" name appears by letters, then titel "contrast"
flying over a light mapping, credit names
change of music to some house
3D rings in a ring, flying through them, in a textured crater,
3 concentric rings and a ball in the middle appear, turn a little bit, then disappear
change of music
greeting words, some metaballs, 2D, in the background
picture
jungle music
flying through a cavern, textured mapped walls, water reflex, some 3D objects
music change
lots of 3D balls, forming objects, various colors
music change
3D wireframe objects, turning around, leaving a blue motion blur
again a cavern a 3D object in the middle turning around, then another object, bigger, red metallic reflexing texture
some kind of 3D flower
title, group name, thanks to the viewer

Goddamnit it's boring as hell nowadays :) But, taken in 96 context, solid thumb up.
Code feels very solid!
rules
wanna get high?
Well directed
One of the very best pc demo imo and a solid production, as always with Oxygene.
Good stuff back then and fantastic soundtrack.
YOGA EY
Oh yes, Baby!
great music and gfx, but i think their amiga demos are better
Hypnotiser.
awesome!!
features one of the nicest tunes on pc :)
way too lengthy for my taste..
Maybe that was ok for '96, I dont remember, but surely some nice code there.
great demo
A successfull jump from Atari to PC scene :)
Clawz you rocks!
Clawz you rocks!
together with solex my favourite oxygene demo. oxbab and clawz were a real dream team! killer 3d engine for the time (although the trifiller is a bit low-accuracy). Also like the full-screen images (by mon iirc)
Quote:
You can't do that on PS3!
well, actually oxbab == Christophe Balestra == main coder of Uncharted PS3. He's still pushing limits as you can see :-)
wonderful soundtrack, better looking visuals than most 3d-demos back then. The whole demo just have that kick-ass feel and (atleast back then) special french quality stamp :)
Excellent
Ahh.. pure pleasure every time I watch this one.
Indeed, great demo with awesome music
cool demo, esp nice music
\:D\
Really like the colors and music here, some spiffy effects as well of course.
what noby said.
But you don't like too strong colors kimi. Make up your mind.
I like them, because they are 1990 colors :)
Very nice and polished for 1996 and obviously inspiring other similar demos ;) - I'd like to say I appreciated the music especially - well composed and interesting, with slow synthesque transitions.
If the demo had faded out after the female face pic, there would have been no wow factor. I was expecting it to be the calm before the storm and didn't quite get a storm or a wow factor but it did indeed continue its enjoyable journey and for 1996, I can absolutely see why it gets CDCs.

wow
Jawdropper back then - excellent production, much thanks to Clawz music and the colour schemes :)
Cool demo
one of the best DOS demo ever released!
really nice 2d fxs, tunnel-stuff and 3d scenes (and not so lovely vectorballs :), but the most impressive part is a KILLER SOUNDTRACK by Clawz!!! which just makes this demo soooooooooo cool and nice. especially for 1996 (compare it with typical mid-90s "boring 3d flyby\objshow" stuff and make your choice ;)
P.S. seems that it does not like EMM386 in real dos, but who cares? :)
P.P.S. ahh, I ran out of CDCs :)

Back then I listened to the soundtrack till the cows came home. Tasty visuals, and the soundtrack is something special!
An awesome production with a very cool music. I watched it several times with great pleasure.
really nice demo with a really nice soundtrack
I love this demo. And the soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece.
this one seems to be still the same good as it used to be ages ago!
Calm and enjoyable. My favourites are credits, end scene, and tunnel part.
still one of the best demos ever -> take my long missing THUMB
why didnt i thumb this up?!?!?!?!?
One of my alltime favourites! Could listen to the soundtrack forever.
Seriously mind-blowing.
cool
Nice french PC-demo with plasmas, flybys, 3d-objects and nice music
great!
WOW
I did not comment this prod after all this years
I made some dumb public comments back in days (about the code quality)
The fact is i did not see the demoscene evolution and i want to apologies here for that
Thumb up, this was a massive work (gfx, music AND code)
As i read in the last Leonard/OXG production, ox(bab)ygen may be back soon?
It will be great!

Lovely!
Still love this one. The ambience of the music, the atmosphere, great 3d engines, interrupted by great old-new 2d effects like burning wireframe, evolution of vectorballs and such. But the atmosphere/music is what drags me in.
Forgotten thumb
