cxnull - Apparently I must have missed where a 1k intro is expected to have sound... I know it's common for a 4k intro, but I've not seen any 1ks that I can recall that had sound.

However I had precision problems (geforce 8800) and the image was blocky and the animation jerky. But that's because of the getTickCount() which gives the time since the pc was restarted, and mine was rebooted three weeks ago last time (oh yes my mac&linux friends, I only reboot windows when I reinstall graphic drivers)

hmm, same as iq (GF 9600m GT)...
In case anyone is interrested, i fixed the bug that was due to lack of precision due to high GetTickCount values. updated the archive, same place as the download link.
for the screensaver thing, just rename this as .scr instead of .exe, and move it to your windows directory, it should appear in the screensaver list afterwards (if i recall correctly, under windows xp, no idea under vista if it works).
@auld, yes it's obvious, removed the fullscreen mode :) and also just initialise your static structures with all final attributes instead of doing affectations in the code that burn instructions ;)

ok, looks pretty much like the code here, without fullscreen.. then there is the shader init that is really huge because of the extension. -_- and impossible to remove the glCreateShader/glCreateProgram despite it always returns the same integer (so it isnt the same as textures..).
even in assembler there is a 120 bytes penality.. versus d3d.. which is huge.. you can do a very basic synth maybe with that..
i like the fusion between hot and cold colors :)
