selfvoting is so 2006...

Reasons:
Selfvoting
Wrong rounding. Either you count with 1000b or 1024b as 1k, this tips over to being a 24k. (Among other parts of the scene, a 32769b is not a 32k for example ) And then the music is not included. Is it generally accepted in the flashscene not to count the music into the size?
And then last but not least. Opened in Opera. (My regular browser) Hogged the CPU, froze the browser and allocated enormous masses of RAM. Started in IE (Bohoo!) Still the same.

heh, what does votes counts for? I think nothing. Comments are what matters something. Twinside, this demo is for demo use only. Not for running at background while browsing freeones.com youknow :) Memory is there to be used I think.

The demo itself isn't _that_ bad but not good enough to equalize your counting, the huge waste of RAM and the selfvoting.

some effects were pretty nice. and the music aswell..
but the colorscheme and simplicity of some scenes wasnt very appealing to watch it again. atleast for me.

oh man precalculating?? .. that took ages already... is there an U instead of an A in the groupname? ;)

+ It's rather nice looking, but
- sorry it's 2.29mb big not 23 or 24kb,
- what just happen to 230 mb of my computer's RAM ?
- I don't know exactly what Flash9 has in the guts but what is precalculated exactly ? I can't see.
- self vote ?! dude.

nitro2k01: The compo rules stated 32k AS3 thing and a mp3 file. As you can see it's added as a demo in pouet so I see no problem here really? :)

Ok, that's what I wanted to hear.

Even added as a demo and not counting the music I think it's false advertising to say this a 23k. Even with the best will, it's 198b too big for that name.
But of course, as you long you add it as a demo you can call it whatever you want and have whatever size. You could just as well release a 19M mega demo and call it super mega 512b.

What nitro2kl01 and ltk_tscc said.

It's slightly less clunky in Safari, just about watchable. Would probably be reasonable on a higher-end Mac.

Agree with everyone else about the pre-calc bit. Almost needs a little intro or something running in the foreground to distract from the stale wait ;-)

Piggie from me..

Nice music and some nice stuff. Ugly colors and pretty much just some random 3d. Piggy.

I thought it looked quite nice. Piggy.

Except for the misleading "23k" it is pretty nice. Pretty short but cool. I actually quite like it. Nice music as well.

Stingray: w00t? :) you thumb up this? but you thumb down or piggie other prods that should have deserved it much more?

Wtf is all this ram usage which fucking chokes my pc when trying to run this? Well, use a better technique next time....

I thumb up things that I like. And I liked this one. But tastes differ you know so I can also understand the people thumbing it down. :)

so any idea what's precalculated ?

The end was a bit short but nice.

23k or not, flash demos generally suck and this doesn't, so it's got my thumb :)

That I'd like to know too. :)

The textures I would say, and the meshes. What else could it be precalculated, your porn?

Here it goes my thumbs up, you guys rock, however gave a thumb down sucks. Seriously.

Nice one. Amazing to see what you can do with flash these days.
rulez added on the 2007-02-02 17:56:31 by tR tR
not as bad as advertised.
added on the 2007-02-02 20:41:29 by bruce bruce
nice, although i'd still like to know the capabilities of flash properly.
can one write a softsynth in it?

After upgrading my machine from 256 MB to 1.25 GB RAM, it worked fine :) Nice effects.
rulez added on the 2007-02-02 23:21:55 by Skate Skate
Gargaj, yes, they can:

http://lab.andre-michelle.com/eq-filter
http://lab.andre-michelle.com/playing-with-pulse-harmonics
http://lab.andre-michelle.com/synthesized-drumsounds

Tho, aparently is not straight forward to do, yet.

As I said, I was expecting some prod to be done with a synth. Next time.

The calculations are for decrunzhing models, drawing textures and those huge background images. I wanted to add as much as possible in 32k, but time run out. So it's only 24kb. The name is there for making some small-souls crying and make a fool of oneselfs :)

I'm aware how difficult case flash is to approve for demoscene. It is so easy to do something with flash that it generates alot of crap. But when working with pure ActionScript and creating amazing stuff like trace or evoflash from point zero, that's something to give respect. This work is all pioneer stuff. High-capasitet 3d engines, mandelbrots effects and those are all done for first time in flash ever.
added on the 2007-02-03 11:23:37 by simppafi simppafi
Thanks for the explanations.

By decrunching the models, you mean generating them, right ? They are mainly geodesic spheres and revolution objects.

Regarding the textures and backgrounds, do you work on a per pixel basis ? My approach, in JS is to draw little, use gradients & patterns and manipulate a few layers. It's pretty quick.

Agreed about pure AS prods. They become better and better. I was impressed by the speed of some bitmap effects in "Who Killed Travolta?"

Really nice 3d engine, for flash...
The lengthy precalc and ram wasteing isn´t so nice though.
