Nice concept, executed really well. Drew a lot of applause from the crowd for a reason. I do miss a sphere texture in the TBL-TV part though :)

wasn't this the one with the ugliest western 3d scene ever? if not, forgive me - but otherwise it really wasn't worth 2nd place.
ok, and it wasn't all bad. tv part was a really nice idea, but then again showing effects and stuff from other demos isn't actually that creative either.

uhhh, gonna see nightmares of that cowboy scene for a long time :)
agree with mr Melw. This shouldn't have got the 2nd place.. but then, Mekka is held in Germany.. :P
the cowboy scene was ugly as shit, but the rest was cool... and kure stop mess with us germans =) .. (though i'm actually not german origin)
Yes we know the Western-Scenes looks ugly as hell but thats the concept of the part .. we wont change that! And its only 2min of the 10min Demo ..
Anyway .. we will release a final version of this demo with some bug fixes (especially P96 Timing) in the near future and add some missed stuff ..
But tnx for your comments!

actually, i was close to leave the compohall after the first seconds i saw the awful western-scene (which also seems to have a hard sound-syncing problem too =). the demo itself is cool, it was a nice trip back in time, so to say ..
Hmm, not easy to judge. The western-scene is not good. But from then on, i kind of liked it, in an oldskool feeling kind of way. Nice music, nice gfx.
But i still think scarab should spend more time on a design and making a demo based on that design.
Tribute is more a "throwing together completely different parts into one demo". But then again, maybe it was meant like that?
Any way, keep on making demos!

myeah there were a lot of nice effects later too. nice work!
This demo is not only thrown together as you said.
the second part is lead by the songtext of Neil Halstead's
High Hopes:
The grass was greener ; The landscape
The light was brighter ; not used in the demo
The taste was sweeter ; the candies
The nights of wonder ; The picture with the glowing text
With friends surrounded; The greetings
The dawn mist glowing ; appears on the bottom of the followed effect
The water flowing ;
The endless river ; the landscape with the river
All in all i think this is a great production apart
from the western scene and the timing problems with
gfx-cards. but this will be fixed as sniper said.

The lyrics are from Pink Floyd, on the "Division Bell" album.
The original Song is from Neil Halstead, covered
by Pink Floyd :o)

I didn`t expect us to win the second place, we were all really
surprised! Well, wait for the fixed version! We`ll see each others
again at Mekka^Symposium next year. We`ll see what will happen then.

Overall nice demo with the true scene spirit even when the textures in the western scene could look way better
Uh, I remember it started lame ("we didn't had the time to finish') and I thought they shouldn't have released it. While watching it for a while it get better and better. People were really amazed.
HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAAHAHHA!!!
the cowboy-scene is a true classic!!!

I don't mind the cowboy scene either, even though it IS ugly :)
Got my thumb for a lot of good elements.
The western-scene - hmm. ;)
In 1984 I was a fan of C64's "High Noon", but not in 2002. :D

The cowboy scene is funny :) The rest is good.
yeah, it's funny...but not exactly ha-ha-funny :P
Up for the idea, the reverse engeneering and
the Pink Floyd lyrics.
And I'll never forget the fun we had there in the "Boing- Area" at MS2k2 :D

crap.
horrible texturing, ripped (as usual) pic from wade

Stingah:
I know you told me
...and that what's reverse engeneering is.
At least for me.
Takin' a look at it, overthink how "they" done it and
building an exact replica.
The other method would be disassembly...wouldn't it? ;)

d0DgE: wouldn't "building an exact replica" include doing the eph-part wit LUT-balls instead of those shitty lowpoly 3d-objects?
And no, reverseengineering is not "to look at something and create a half-assed wannabe-copy",,,
Thumbs UP for the cowboy!!!!

ehehe...here I'm the wrong guy to address ;P
...ok rephrase...[i]trying[/u] to build an exact replica....better now?

o_O
There are flashes of potential, but it's just thrown together and ends up a big mess.
nothing special
Heh, I had forgotten the cowboy :D
Nice tribute anyway...
Nice tribute anyway...
Nice but I prefer demos with original effects. ;)
The next worst 3d scene i've ever seen in a demo. Only a horror pc demo from ms2001 beats it. Anyway, nice tv zapping part.
Cowboy scene is not bad, just the textures are. Music is very good.
Ehmm no. No textures in the world could make that scene look good. :) Anyway, I like the demo.
Great one.
Loved the variety in this one, music is quite cool to. I want that SS for my wallpaper ;)
Nice one!
some nice parts
Not bad, but I was expecting a bit more.
Not bad ideas, but very messy.
