I'm the author of this demo, didn't know it made it onto pouet. Just to answer a few questions:
I agree it's pretty ugly, I've learned a lot since then.
There was in fact a plot, it was about the journey of music from inside an instrument (hence the gold tunnel) to your mind (the metaballs). I do like the earwax theory though.
