the rainbowcolored sinescroller sooooo does not match the other parts in this cracktro. nice logo by kenet, as always, but the rest is just crappy. effects like these ran on 1% of current CPU power flawlessly :P

it wasnt the starfield i was referring to as for the logo and greyfont rather. at least back in the 90s cracktro developers werent arrogant dickheads that yelled 'you're not oldskool enough' towards any form of criticism.. but hey..

this is actually a win32 prod and usually win32 prods exit on ESC, you call it oldschool or WHATEVER, it doesn't matter. IMHO a prod may only be called "oldschool" if it actually runs on a "oldschool-platform". That's my attitude.

You cant feel the oldschool spirit in this release nor in any other old fashioned designed prods since you have never been a part of it.

there is no oldskool spirit in doing ugly scrollers with modern accelerated hardware.

Seriously, if people are serious about sticking to a term like "oldskool", let alone arguing about it, there should at least be some consensus on what it actually means. So far I've seen 3 uses:

1) Productions made in a style which makes them look like old stuff
2) Productions made with old hardware
3) Old productions (the most incomprehensible use for the term, since something which was cutting edge in 1988 is in NO way "oldskool" even 1000 years from now)

Now which one is it? It can't be all of the above, or even two of them. If you need to be explained why, consider going back to your "skool" and paying attention to the teachers.

lets sum up the facts:

- it might trigger "oldschool" sentiments
- as opposed to the '90-'96 dos years (even then this was novice/beginner level stuff), it takes jack shit to code this, it really doesnt take no skill at all and thus deserves no respect other than investing time
- i don't like it.. the logo is nice, but the rest is just pure tasteless bullshit

go watch a 100 old dos cracktros before trying again, or invest your time in learning something about programming on a larger scale

(i cant say anything about how the starfield is made, but it could be something like GL_LINES + GL_LINE_SMOOTH... yet the way the logo is additivly blended & filtered made it yet obvious).

I'm getting sick and tired of all the wankers who keep insisting that people would appreciate tripe like this if they had been active in the early days of the scene. Perhaps this is true for some (as Maali so eloquently puts it) "wannabe-oldskoolers", who after 20 years have finally found a platform powerful enough to run their sinescroll code, I don't know... But for anyone with real skills, there is definitely no honour in releasing such totally unimaginative crap again and again.

If it sucks and you KNOW it sucks, don't try to defend it.

cool intro. but my antivirus (microsoft security essentials) detects that it's a trojan (only on Blood Rayne 2 crktro 'Trojan:Win32/Occamy.C' , but it doesn't detect on Cricket 2005 crktro)
