Great sound and mood. Only the bluebox outlines were bad here and there. But apart from that very professional.

Too much like a ordinary VIVA/MTV music video, VATTAOT or Fear of Redemption was way better. Great prod anyway - the music kicks ass.

What are the lyrics supposed to mean by the way?
And I totally agree with everything TS said (except it is "an ordinary" instead of "a" :)

most of the other music videos in the animation compo had alot higher quality than this.. felt VERY amateurish ;)
sucks added on the 2004-04-17 00:42:45 by lithis lithis
I agree with lithis. Looks like.. um.. difficult to say.. A typical lowres cd-rom clip from the mid-90s. May be because of the b/w, but it doesn't look good overall.
Whoever said this looks very professional must be on some kind of medication.

music is top notch. sure , the acting could be better but it´s nice to watch. the music itself could be a big hit in the ebm scene.

powerful!

however it makes me laugh like those metal band cheap videos :]
rulez added on the 2004-04-17 16:08:09 by Zest Zest
this musical state-of-mind-trilogy video resembles pretty closely stages of my own life - its in the main frame, its in small situations, i recognize very much of it.

however because of its very seriousness, such material demands the highest professionality possible. "faith, looking serious" is merely "faith, making a fishy face", there have been problems with the blueboxing, and of course, apparently there are a few other little problems with camera positions and location choosing.

but from my own experiences with making a movie i know pretty well how damn hard it is to do a movie. the first movie i did was meant to be funny in general, because i knew that with our equipment and our talent we could never perfectly realize something really serious. think of such movies like "requiem for a dream" or "magnolia": how fragile to directors and actor-errors those worlds of seriousness are. making those movies must have been incredibly intense. thats what i also think of "out back into".

so: fucking mad respect to you both for daring to realize something deep that comes straight out of your hearts, and expose this to others. this is really a movie that would be missed if it wasn't produced.

Cool music. nice design. mostly nice sync. but the chick could have more "wood in front of the house". ;)
rulez added on the 2004-04-18 14:26:51 by necr0nomico necr0nomico
necr0nomico: now that was low.

sprocket:
> "A typical lowres cd-rom clip from the mid-90s"

maybe some words concerning the image quality:
I had some kind of a smooth and still sharp-looking elegant look in mind, like expensive automobile-reclame. Anyway, it turned out that a camera that can do that is really expensive stuff. I personally hate technical restrictions like that, but in this case there was simply no way of improving image quality any further without owning a better camera (i used a 0815 digital camcorder).

anyway, i don't think that this is what it is all about :)

mjz:
>"What are the lyrics supposed to mean by the way?"

paniq's comment covers this question quite good. the concept of this film is.. hmm.. i'd say something like a taoistic approach to the principles of life :)
the lyrics (chapter 1-3) are to be understood as a whole, and they do not make much sense when seperated.

...

thank you for your comments so far! :)

Definetely cheesy, but really impressive work for only a duet in short amount of time. Thumbs up even if it's not my cup.

i must admit i thought "oh my god, isn't it over yet?" a couple of times and then skipping a head a few minutes. very boring and "homemade", sorry. though; some good ideas here, so no thumb down either.

I liked it. I found it professional enough. I don't want it so polished it looks corporate. Looking forward to the next one.
Without doubt my favourite production from BP04! Excellent energetic music and an interesting concept. That production really spellbound me during the competition!

i don't take this like a wild but like a music video

1st part : music is awful, horrible, and the girl don't sing but just speak on music (and as listener, i did never try to understand the lyrics, i just take care about if vocals meet music to gives emotions with good vibes), no emotions here, very cold girl (wich laugh in 1st 'wind' scene, this scene looks amateur)
about visuals, looks like old music video clips (it miss perhaps color filters, or the cam moves are too slow perhaps), not so bad, the thing try to be serious but be funny in lots of ways

2th part : better visuals (try to not use more than 4seconds per view, change your camera more), song is better, girl is not a good actress, she never look the camera (and do not gives anything to the viewer), she not open her mouth when singing and it looks she did not believe in what she say.

3th part : david coperfield appears and is funny ;) 3D part is cool, hard to mix video and 3D like this, music is very bad and oldish, sing is better than in 1st part

please, sing in your own language instead of english, and improve your camera speed and framming ;)
Zone:
you are criticizing 4channel tunes for a lack of simultanous voices...
more likely, you're critizising 4channel tunes for not providing enough visuals.

anyway, i think it is most important to judge everything based on criteria given by whatever you usually prefer to watch/listen to/...
That leaves the question, why are you watching something you are not interested in at all? :)

That doesn't mean that I'm against criticism at all, but please be a little careful about the criteria you apply.

> "she not open her mouth when singing"
check your player. everything was recorded while playbacking (she actually sang while performing the scenes) and resynced afterwards.

> "please, sing in your own language instead of english"

may i quote you:

"and the girl don't sing but just speak on music"

"it miss perhaps color filters"

"if vocals meet music to gives emotions"

"the thing try to be serious but be funny in lots of ways"

...

what is left to say?

ah yes.
i'm really angry that you criticize my work for not understanding it while you did not even try, if you did not get the message yet :)

for example, the "coldness" expressed in the first part is intended. the lack of "beliefe" as well.

> "and it looks she did not believe in what she say."
vs.
> "and as listener, i did never try to understand the lyrics"

......

you are right about camera movement:
since handcamera is a little difficult, i'm working out ways to improve it for later projects, that do not require a full-featured steadycam.

no offense meant :)

Zone:
basicaly your comment sounds like some country singer is judging over aphex twin.
and maybe this is no prod for you,
like english is no language for you. or something....

at zone:
i don't take your text like a dull uninteresting and lying comment but like a serious review.

first of all, your english is terrible.
second, you don't even care to think for the reasons some things were done as they were done. (why don't you realize this on your own?)
third, i think you are a sad person.

well, that's it.

Heh, I did think this prod was way too long and boring, but STILL it was good. It was good, too long and boring.

If it was shorter, "more compact", it could have been superb, now it's just good. Ver good, though. Did I make myself clear? No? Ok, then not. :-)

I liked it a lot. Especially the second part. Try to listen to it when you're not in a good mood, i think it makes me understand it better. Well done guys, keep working like this.

diserves some more improvement, but still amazing. and i expect more next time. :> Video direction is not an easy task. :/ i can't say it was perfect, but i don't think i would be able to do it better.

i heard standard greenbox filters always suck. :/ there's no easy way to blue/greenboxing. The recent CreativeLive and Digital-Production had articles on rolling your own from other ones, finetuning etc. Don't know whether you've used something like that or whether it would help, just a tip.

I liked it a lot overall. Good style, very nice editing, neat music. Definitively something to watch more than once. I also liked the singing (a bit Anne Clark/Sara Noxx-ish?).
Now for criticism:
- The spoken words part... eww ("What's that?" - "A cube, silly girl!") :P
- The keying is sometimes really weak.
- I would have liked a more clear seperation between the three parts. Maybe seperate files, giving more of a triology feeling?

Hmm I have one problem with this prod, it looks like some three musicvideos for Mtv, not for WILD compo ! And story and poetry is rather dull, sorry bout this.

Still I give a thumb up for showing very good editing skills.
