I've seen and have come to expect much better from spöntz. Nothing particularly bad though.

thx for port

We (I [music] and DeeKay [gfx]) had a hard time trying to get that downloaded in any way possible - for entrying. Not to mention Merlucing was in a _fu**ing_ hurry finishing it... so design-wise it flips. Look forward to the next one, please. :)

Good demo but nothing more.

Very cool! What I really really liked, was the Explosion, the credits and the greetings!
rulez added on the 2004-04-16 19:04:14 by elend elend
best parts and FX:
From the explosion+credits to the end

worst points:

the huge red invader has severe problems on mesh optimization?
Some 3dscenes are done with kill-that-artist style.
and....POR DIOS! how the hell you're wasting almost ¡¡¡ 6 MEGS!!! with a digitized stream, when all the fuckin music sounds like 120% PURE SB 2.0 Midi !!!!!!!!!
:( (me lo olia...y efectivamente! ahi está ese pedazo de .ogg!)

I quite like it. Although rather slow on my TiBook (667/Radeon) and veeery slow on the eMac (1GHz/Radeon) but the doc says a G5 is recomended. I guess it's time to start saving up for a new one..

Am I the only one to realize this:

Doesnt this double release show, that democoding on MAC and PC is equivalent and there is not need to deal with the MAC separatly? Why do you need an additional competition, too afraid to stand up to the real competition from the pc side?

the effect of the screenshot was really nice but appears only 1second. The music is great as well but the whole demo have a medium level. I'm sure next time will rox! vamos vamos!
added on the 2004-04-16 19:58:36 by mrdoob mrdoob
Enjoy the music jak! =D this is the side effect of the 14Mb limit for the compo. High tesselation for the red martian was for light calculations we couldn't get due to the deadline.

About the mac/pc discussion, i prefer mixed demo compos (Win + OSX) But if there is a mac compo, Spöntz will be there. *Always*.

Hi evil! The problem resides in the Radeon card. Try with an n-vidia chip and a simple 700Mhz G4 - smooth :)

Average in every aspect.

A win32 port, good,. I can finally see one of the MAC demos I have missed. I was out (where the real party is :) and then went inside for the MAC compos but they were already finished :P
added on the 2004-04-16 23:21:41 by Optimus Optimus
rulez for the win32 port and the cool fitting music! (like any Spöntz demo :)

on the other hand graphics aren't very nice, specially some ugly textures :/

Jak: Are you serious about this (SB 2.0 MIDI!?). Now this is something new. :-)
added on the 2004-04-17 11:22:42 by PinZa PinZa
die änderung was much better.
I find that red space invader (later rgb ones) flying around a little bit "anti-climax".
Seriously, is 14Mb really limiting ?
added on the 2004-04-17 15:03:21 by hitchhikr hitchhikr
definitely ruled the mac compo
very nice idea, reminds me a bit of "i feel like a computer". and it features some very neat effects

Starts simple, gets better as it goes, scenes are ugly at the beginning, but I liked it better from the part with the C64 color credits and stuff. Nice! :)
rulez added on the 2004-04-18 14:18:37 by Optimus Optimus
hitchhikr: I mean that 14Mb is a lot of space for a demo. This project could be reduced to less than 4Mb with more time! Unfortunately? I got a small paid work and could not dedicate to this all the time i would like to :)
added on the 2004-04-18 16:16:32 by merlucin merlucin
My bad, i thought you were complaining about the fact that 14mb wasn't enough ;) (actually an unrealistic size limit (too big) imho). Everything can be reduced (and should be), i'm not a fan of huge sized demos, for me 4megs is already too much, i wonder about the day when demos will become so big that they'll be directly delivered as .avi in order to gain size.

ugly...

Quite nice. But as said: If its porting is so easy, why not just competeing in the pc-compo? Just to get under the first three? =)
Food for my office-mac. Thanks! =)
rulez added on the 2004-04-18 23:08:59 by necr0nomico necr0nomico
necr0nomico: porting is not easy, but our engine specs were designed for portability. Anyway, I am still waiting for an open democompo at bp. And remember (once again) mac compo = spöntz presenting :) nice icon btw :D

are people morons or are people morons,
spöntz f#"%#"g competed on mac compo couz bp orgas didnt want to merge mac and pc into 1 compo. why the f$&k would they want to compete on pc demo if they are mainly using their macs to do their demos? stop complaining about platforms ffs, it's annoying!

pretty damn ugly.. but strangely enjoyable nonetheless. weirld. :)

hornet: probably you have the ZIP and the demo in the same directory, the whole demo is loaded twice! Uncompress the demo in another directory

Nice theme - without it, it would just have been an average demo. Thanks for the PC port!

The graphical bits are a little ouch..

On my Windows XP Home, GeForce4 4200 Ti, Pentium 4 2.5 ghz machine it won't play. I get a tiny little maybe 10x30 black box in the upper left corner of the resized screen, and the music plays, but no picture, just my desktop.

enjoyable. Seems very good codewise, but the lack of overall design ruins it

hmm...design & colors are ugly on some scenes, so piggy.

Had some redeming qualities, but marred by some poor texturing and the concept didn't seem fully developed.
pretty memory hogger this one is, but a nice demo!

some interesting things, scenes, concept and camera moves
but too much ugly tunnels with ugly textures
Spöntz demos always feature pretty good music (We broke our fsking piano)

Pretty good demo, you can't go wrong with Space Invaders =)

Lots of ugly invaders & lack of consistency. Going with the style of the greets part would make a basis for a good demo. Ancient game references and the credits style was fun too and the pictured explosion looked pretty nice as well but that's about as much positive things I can say about this one.

If you want space invaders, I'd say go with Insert Coins instead of this. Unless you're on a mac in which case I'd say forget the invaders and go get something else from Spöntz. :)
