Looks interesting.

A question. Is your "group" name a domain name?
Strange for someone who pretend to be there 35-40 years ago...
No hard feeling, man, thou. Just really surprised.

Good luck in coding other nice stuff!

I was there and I miss it still. There's a link in the intro which explains the background and my site has many links and articles with the rest of my Amiga & Speccy history/projects.

Group name - well, it's just me these days. My old Amiga group is long defunct, and the few times I've tried to make contact it's been made clear that they've moved on and don't really want to talk to anyone from the old days. Could have revived my old handle but it just didn't feel right.

A solid enough start 👍

@mdr:
Thanks for a nice answer.
(...)they've moved on and don't really want to talk to anyone from the old days.(...)
That's really pity. I also had this kind of experience, tbh. As if the ppl were ashamed of sth/sb... Dunno.

Anyway, we can not change anyone (it is difficult to change ourselves alreade...).
Please, keep up the great job and nice to have an "old" fellow here among us ^^.

It deserves a thumb!

we was there in yars revenge and we were there in 1983, never been in a group, never been on a scene, but even salems lot here had two providers and a swapping friday night where games were played for beer and wurst (no one would ask your age at the bar back then ...)

i had internet only when i was 25 ... i , too find it strange sometimes that i get treated like a pig in a mob-den "wheres your demo from the 80s" asking questions about coding or something lol

of all the people back then there was me and two others who would ever code, everyone else just played games and

i havent seen anyone of them in over 20-30+ years now

sooo ... i prodded a lot of monitor with a KCS cartridge as a kid, swapped a lot of sprites, rastercolours, scrolltext and sinetables, turned wonderboy into beerboy and was strangely fascinated by rows of hex numbers on a hand down 1970s tube with one mono speaker and an RF input, otherwise it was BASIC, the biggest one i think a full text adventure where you had to go around school killing all the teachers (ive seen some east-european game like that recently) but just like the 100 xms from the fast tracker, nothing ever got online ,

so the "first one" was 1st1(k) if you look at it that way, after i got a c64 again because i couldnt figure out what sid sound was the real one as goat, vice and sidplay had 3 different sounds ... money was available still

and for the first time there were stable raster bars i coded myself (no cc65, still dont use it)

back then we said "now just another 40 years and we'll code fairlight off the stage" , now, since its not a full-time occupation or a life's calling and life since long now is made of shyte and no-time i think we're at "another 39 years to censor fairlight and shed some fair light on censor"

this is way more effort than we put in our "1st one" , i like the zx a lot tho i never had one (wish i had some decent map of the piano for the STE too)

for the love of yes-coding, rich kids claude

smart kids code , im still trying to figure out, if i pay a billionnaire tokens to do it for me, then what's left in it for me ?

we just love programming, ever since the kid, and we love retro, not neo-fantasy consoles pretending to be c64s and amigas

thats also why we mostly stay in the tunnels out of Arnies reach, and we only do retro coding on an old-gen i5 with 4gb that never goes online, it gives us that "you are not demented yet" moment when we figure something out

the short version :

"absolutely not bad for a first one"(assuming its not a.i. assisted ofcourse)

i just read your making-of page. huge respect for this prod - especially in the times of AI, where people tend to vibe-"code" in order to fulfill their old dream of making an oldschool platform prod, you actually sat down and learned to code on a platform. and the result is really cool!

btw, are you the same mdr who ran/runs cement city bbs?
rulez added on the 2026-10-12 12:18:51 by dipswitch dipswitch
No, I'm not the mdr from cement city bbs. No connection there! Glad you liked the prod. It's all about the journey and not the destination with these things.

so, what was your old nick in NFA, if you don't mind sharing? i just entered your prod into demozoo and it would be good to properly link aliases for historical reasons...
