I loved the pace of this demo.

I guess it does its best to paper over the basic "we'll make a demo entirely out of cubes" concept by making it dice but I also don't think it makes the most of the concept, 'cos they're really just cubes that occasionally face different ways. Solid track though, and it doesn't overstay its welcome.

I totally enjoyed it.

Fantastic concept! Loved the dynamic flow, clever design choices, and the audio was top-notch!

bit too gimmicky for me, but i liked the 'recognise the club 27 peeps' part :P

It looked very dice on stream, grows with every re-watch. Congrats, dice job!

Indeed, very dicey overall.

Without having watched any of the other entries in the compo I can easily see this one winning, bravo!

Thanks again for all the votes and kind words - I’m really glad you enjoyed it. I’ll do my best not to stop here!

A Linux version is now available, and fullscreen should work properly as well - you can grab the latest builds for all platforms here:

There’s also a YouTube capture online now:

So feel free to download or just watch it online.

Throw dice, catch melody!

An absolutely killer demo, a great concept, and execution nailed down to the last detail. A solid piece of work and a well-deserved win.

Awesome music and prod, I loved it!
I'm a real stickler for piano animation being the correct notes, so I'm glad to see that attention to detail :)
(although I think the octaves are off? Maybe I don't hear it right though)

Congrats for that kicking concept and nice realisation, I loved the theme most of all linked to music, really enjoyed the show! Thanxalot for this prod!

What gargaj said, but an entertaining and enjoyable ride nonetheless.

Thoroughly uninteresting and quite bad sync, but OK enough to warrant a piggie.

Very nice demo, great to watch, brilliant design and music

I was surprised to see this win, since it’s pretty much weakest of the second half of the demo compo. Nothing wrong with it per se - just a very cookie cutter demoish demo.

I guesss thumb up anyway, since it’s not boring.

Done with style!

I really liked the first minute or so but when it went down the common demo trope route, it lost me somewhere along the way.

Thanks, I'm really glad the music caught your ear! As for the piano motif – yes, it's played in two octaves, but in the second one I'm simply using a different sound than in the first phrase.

Barely a thumb up. I'd expect more from a 1st place Revision demo in 2025. This is really just an oops-all-cubes/Minecraftish demo with pips on the sides and shadows. You could have at least done some physics simulation of dice rolling or colliding. But it has good pacing, camera work, and music at least.

Alright, I’ve been hearing that one person wants to run “Melodice” without full-screen, someone else wants a different window size, and yet another friend wants to see the FPS counter. So - one last time (I hope, because I really want to move on!) - I dug the project back out and made a “Coder’s Cut” release. It comes with an external config file:
Code:config/settings.py

There you can toggle dev-mode (with scrolling, pause, etc.), pop up a GUI for filters, capture the output to a file, switch full-screen on/off, show a frame-rate meter, enable video sync, cap the frame rate, or set any window size you like.
This isn’t pure altruism ;-) - with this “one weird trick” I’ll save myself pain in later projects: if something misbehaves on the compo machine, instead of doing a new build I can just tweak the settings file in any text editor and instantly test multiple variants.
Disclaimer: It’s not a secret build, but I’m not planning to upload it to scene.org either. It’s a coder’s version for anyone who’s interested. I haven’t tested every possible combo of settings; some definitely clash and a few may lead to odd behavior. You use it at your own risk - worst case, the demo just won’t start or will look awful. If anything major breaks, let me know; it’s probably a tiny fix and I can still patch it.
Have fun!
As usual, I’ve got Linux, macOS, and Windows builds here:

Somewhat surprising this is the winner. Strong early 2000s look and feel to be honest. Nice work on the tune though!

One idea stretched to fill a whole demo.
The torus (gramophone) and protracker worked really well.
