Best crt / vcr post process ever. Also a damn fine demo underneath all that.

Ho i love this one
Wonderful analog postprocessing filter. The femo I wish had gone more from A to B, but as a mood piece it works really well.
excellent stuff, especially the music <3
Loved it on the bigscreen!
finally a worthy stream killer again!
Dope! Broke twitch.
Best of party, no contest. Made me want to reach out and touch the screen to feel the static electricity.
Absolute banger in all aspects... Just sick af
:U
black screen (nvidia).
only 6th? Jesus, should have been at least top 3!
Yup.
Great effects and a nice message. The best production of the compo imho.
It’s so so good !
The best production of the compo and.... 6th! But for me you're my personal number one. Very well done.
Great stuff. Should have ranked higher.
Great
great esthetics
I really didn't like this one.
The main problem I see is that the VHS effect was just completely overdone. It's one thing to imitate an aesthetic, but at this point this makes no sense any more. Back then when you had a video looking this bad you wouldn't continue viewing, because it was unpleasant for one thing, but also and mostly because it likely meant something was wrong with the player and you didn't want it to eat the magnetic tape.
And this leads to the second problem: with a visual clue that is screaming to stop the video before something goes wrong, and a very tame atmosphere with little happening, at some point this demo just overstayed its welcome, and overshot it by a large margin.
It's as if you made a music that included cracking vinyl sounds, but cranked it all the way up to sounding like the diamond actively scratching through the disk, and maintained that effect during several minutes.

great stuff, a graphics experiment that escaped from Sutherland’s lab and was handed down amongst the early demosceners through the analog miracle of vhs-copying. Should have ranked higher!
I very much disagree with Zavie. On the contrary, Limp Ninja manages to make it work, when it would likely look cheap and jarring if anyone else tried doing the same.
concept!
This is probably the most realistic fake VHS glitch effect I've seen so far, and I love the period-appropriate font too.

At this point the 'vhs effect' is an aesthetic beyond the actual physical effect on vhs tapes back in the day. Where people that have never actually experienced it in daily use elevated it to a video aesthetic by itself, where you let go of any physical boundary that ever was and push it to its limits.
Which is exactly what this demo does.
spring equals summer, fall equals winter, hmm…
obviously the best and most serious entry in the compo, not surprised to see it land in the middle of the pack in the results; people don't come to demoparties to experience introspective thought provoking art after all.
with that said however, i don't think it's the most realistic VHS effect or whatever, but more to the point it's presented as exactly what the demo intends it to be, repurposing the characteristics into beauty in and of itself, recontextualizing them into a reified form. it isn't about realism of the 'effect', it just ends up as such as a secondary consequence.

i also fully agree with okkie, but also wanna point out that
this absolutely is a thing, need to look no further than at the intersection between something like electroacoustic improvisation and turntable music. a notable trend in both music and visual arts during the 20th century was exploration of mediums themselves as forms of art, employing them not as tools to create art but repurposing them as art in and of itself. it doesn't mean you have to like it—certainly not every piece of such art—but this example is already very much a thing that exists.

Really lovely! Also great work on the soundtrack.
I really liked this one.
This is art
Wow! Probably best glitchy outline trip since years...
Feels good <3
amazing demo, one of the highlights for me in the compo.
just one thing to complain about: a 25fps cap switch would be ace, to make it more VHS like; other than that a perfect combination of visuals and music.

summer daydream
Very nice, should have placed much higher IMHO. I liked it a lot, stood out from the other entries in the compo for me.
Beetje heel erg meh, sorry.
This was my favorite in the compo. Interesting and different!
love this on so many levels + what okkie said.
what noby said
..and fall equals winter? Smooth and polished prod, I like your style.
Somehow not my cup of tea, still good.
Excellent style in every department.
Rara avis.
Nice visual, but the audio was OK.
I wasn't immediately wowed, but I got gradually into it during my viewing. Which is unusual nowadays since 2024 attention spans are about 6 seconds, I suppose.
The music will probably show up in a nightmare at some point, though.

I very much enjoyed this entry, especially the music, one of my favorite at Evoke.

Unusual design
Very interesting. I appreciated the printed look of the outlined 3D shapes with filled patterns. Fresh while still connected to the past of computer graphics in a beautiful way.
VHS 💗
ok
Cool style! I was also thinking that it could be capped at a lower framerate to go all the way on the vhs style.
What a beautiful kind of weird.
